This is a diverse and challenging role that requires the development of specialist skills to deliver recovery focused interventions to adults in a mental health crisis. Our focus is to support service users to remain in their own home in order to aid their recovery during the crisis episode.You will be a qualified Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker and will have worked in a multi-disciplinary team. You will need to have significant post qualification experience in mental health and preferably within crisis services.

The post requires practitioners to be confident assessors who can make clear decisions about risk management, care planning and the appropriateness of home treatment team interventions. Effective gatekeeping assessment and the identification and delivery of the best treatment packages for people presenting to services in crisis will also be key.

About the TeamYou will be working within a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team.The rota for this role includes working weekends and weekdays between the hours of 8am and 10pm.

The post holder will also work for periods at the Acute Referral Centre (ARC) at the Maudsley Hospital; this will involve triage and gate keeping all crisis referrals into the centre and working some night shifts, approximately 8 - 10 per year. Band 6 practitioners work day shifts in the ARC on a rotation basis for up to 12 weeks at a time.

About the Location:

The Croydon team is based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital, Beckenham and staff travel from this base. There is an expectation that the post holder will be able to use public transport and/or their personal vehicles to carry out their role. The service will be able to reimburse relevant expenses incurred.

As a Band 6 Senior Practitioner , you will be expected to :

undertake assessments in a variety of settings, but mostly in their home .

Able to identify risks and put in place risks management plan to deliver care as an alternative to hospital admission;

Working closely and supporting carers;

Work within an MDT setting to collaborate care for service users, supporting their families whilst balancing the challenges and demands on services;

Able to commute from work to home visits;

Able to supervise junior staff and students;

Take part in service and quality improvement;

Working in a diverse community;

Able role model good proactive and adopting the Trust values and commitments;

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Recognised Professional Qualification in Nursing (RMN), Social Work (Dip SW/CQSW) or Occupational Therapy
Desirable
  • Post registration qualification in specialty
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Experience Essential
  • A range of relevant post registration experience in a mental health setting
  • Experience of working with people in a mental health crisis
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of current issues in specialty
  • Knowledge of the principles of equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice in the provision of services
Desirable
  • Experience of audit and research.
  • Experience of alternatives to psychiatric admissions
  • Experience of delivering teaching Sound knowledge of psychopharmacology
  • Experience of a variety of psychological and social interventions
