We have an active and growing paediatric research unit based within a new, dedicated and purpose-built Children's Clinical Research Facility (CCRF), which opened in 2018. We employ over 18 research nurses and clinical research practitioners with a portfolio of over 20 research studies currently in the delivery stage. Over recent years, the department has seen a significant expansion of clinical research.

We currently have an opportunity to provide maternity leave cover for one of our existing research nurses. The post will suit an enthusiastic, organised and motivated individual to join us as a Paediatric Clinical Research Nurse, on the CCRF at St Mary's Hospital. Hours will be full time (37.3hrs) and the post will be funded for 12 months in the first instance. The successful applicant will join a first class team delivering ongoing, ground-breaking paediatric research studies, particularly in the field of children's allergy.

This role involves working closely with medical and nursing staff along with research participants and their families. Central to the role is the recruitment, education and monitoring of patients participating in our allergy clinical research studies. The post holder will be involved in ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards the well-being of the patients, and is conducted within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research.

This position provides the post-holder with the opportunity to work with a very supportive and welcoming team and to further develop your existing knowledge and skills. Prior experience of working in allergy is essential for this role and experience of research within an NHS setting is highly desirable.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will support the aims of the Trust and the NIHR in developing both clinical and academic research knowledge and skills to improve the speed, quality and integration of clinical research in the NHS. The focus of the role will be to provide a grounding in clinical practice and an academic framework conducting research particularly into children's respiratory and allergy conditions.
  • Act as a recognised expert and professional role model within the clinical research environment, including direct and indirect clinical care, teaching, audit and research projects, which will involve managing a wide range of complex and sometime conflicting priorities.
  • Provide safe, high quality, individualised, evidence based nursing care with the support and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team developing the specialist clinical skills and knowledge to achieve the competences required in order to carry out all relevant duties without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the research environment to support the delivery and development of research portfolios in order to take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of clinical research projects.
