To provide a qualified specialist service to children and young people with mental health problems across all sectors of care as part of a multi-disciplinary CAMHS team. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures. They will utilise research skills for audit to support policy and service development; and undertake research within the area served by the service and of relevance to young people their families and carers.

The post holder will provide a core element of the service for children and adolescents by completing initial assessments within the Neurodevelopmental team, providing case management and run ADHD medication clinics with the support of a consultant psychiatrist. The post holder will play an active role in multi-disciplinary discussions and assessments.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties
  • Provide comprehensive CAMHS assessments of children and young people referred to the Neurodevelopmental
  • Run ADHD clinics with support from Consultant Psychiatrists.
  • The post holder will provide case management to those young people undergoing treatment whilst contributing to specialist support plans for the care of children and young people with a range of presenting
  • Formulate plans for the treatment and/or management of the child/young person's problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual children and young people and to provide advice to other professions on risk assessment and risk
  • Act as case manager, taking responsibility for initiating planning and review of CAMHS care plans including children and young people, their carers, referring agents and others involved the network of
  • Communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of children and young people under their care and to monitor
  • To participate on the local Emergency Duty Rota providing a more urgent response to issues when required.
  • Support to parents and young people seeking help between clinic appointments.
  • Close liaison with schools and other agencies
  • To provide reports as appropriate to external agencies, ensuring that issues around confidentiality are managed

Experience of working in various mental health settings Essential
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client group presenting with the full range of clinical severity around mental health concerns across a range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient and residential care settings

  • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary Specialist CAMHS team and of proving specialist CAMHS assessment and intervention.
Assessment and Interventions skills Essential
