Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has this exciting opportunity for an experienced Technologist with experience at a senior level to manage, lead and shape the Nuclear Medicine services provided across the Trust. The post holder will have management duties across the Nuclear Medicine service. Working together with others you will oversee and manage operational and strategic matters for the technical team and service provision.

The department has its own radiopharmacy and the post holder will retain responsibility for safe delivery of services, working with partners across the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Care system to provide stability and resilience to the region.

Technologists should be registered on the voluntary RCT and radiographers should be registered with the HCPC.

There is an expectation that the postholder will work one day a week at the flagship Glassworks Community Diagnostic Centre which is located in the Glassworks shopping centre in the heart of Barnsley town centre, providing a non-clinical day in a non-acute environment.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the operational management of Nuclear Medicine Clinical services across the Trust. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills and have significant experience in both managing services and staff. You will work together with other Modality Leads and the Professional Lead Radiographer to ensure there is an effective delivery of the service, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. You will oversee responsibility for the organisation of routine work (ensuring KPIs are met) and be familiar in planning and implementing service developments. Together with other key staff across the department you will input into strategic plans for the service including workforce plans, major equipment changes and other service changes. You will oversee the recruitment and selection processes for the Technical and support team and work together with others to ensure that the training needs of staff are met. You will be required to attend a number of management meetings at departmental level with the ability to provide both written and oral reports when required. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain clinical duties including the dispensing and administration of radioactive materials acquisition of images, analysis and calculation of results and disposal of radioactive waste material when needed.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of student training.
  • Extensive clinical experience, in Nuclear Medicine, including experience of working at Band 7 level within the NHS.
  • Line management experience and training.
  • Previous experience of implementation and management of Health & Safety requirements.
  • Experience of clinical audit and statistical analysis


Knowledge and Awareness

Essential

  • Knowledge of radiation protection legislation


Desirable

  • Involvement in Service Quality Assurance programmes.
  • Involvement in Performance Indicator Statistics production/analysis.
  • Knowledge of safety issues in CT/MRI and Ultrasound.

Qualifications

Essential

  • First degree
  • Postgraduate diploma in Nuclear medicine or equivalent (Level 7)
  • HCPC registration if applicable (e.g. radiographer) or on voluntary technologist register
  • High level of clinical competency in radiography.
  • Participation in CPD, both as reviewer and interviewee.


Desirable

  • Management qualification or equivalent and demonstrable experience
