The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Histopathology service (Royal Hallamshire base) is seeking applications from an enthusiastic and capable individual to work across all sections of the laboratory as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist. Applications from HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists (not yet achieved specialist status) are also welcome.
Applications from individuals not yet registered with the HCPC but whom hold an accredited degree qualification will be considered depending on interest.
The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Partnership fully integrates the pathology services delivered on behalf of the Partner Trusts within the Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.
The Pathology Partnership will provide the best possible service for patients and clinicians improving health outcomes, delivering quality and efficiency benefits and ensuring a sustainable workforce for the longer term.
Main duties of the job
Perform a range of routine and complex histopathology laboratory investigations commensurate with the grade and should have experience in routine histological techniques, non-gynae cytology preparation immunohistochemistry and dissection.
As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist you will be expected to perform specialist techniques as part of a small team in the following sub sections as required
Neuropathology, molecular analysis (platforms - OSNA, Idylla, NGS sequencing), electron microscopy, Mohs micrographic surgery, metabolic bones.
Take responsibility for your own personal development , deliver staff training as appropriate.
Work to the defined quality standards for all aspects of the service to satisfy UKAS.
Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 5 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 6.

Essential
- IBMS accredited BSC in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent
- Registered with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist
- Completion of IBMS post graduate registration portfolio (Band 5)
- Must hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma in relevant specialist subject (Band 6)
- Commitment to complete and maintain Mandatory Training and required Laboratory competencies
- Commitment to continuous professional development required to maintain HCPC registration
Desirable
- Evidence of continued CPD including relevant courses with regards to H& S, leadership, quality or training
