Are you interested in Specialist Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapy? This exciting opportunity is in the Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapy Team as part of University Hospitals Birmingham. The specialities at the trust include Paediatric Inpatient wards and Paediatric HDU You will see a variety of patients from NIV to patients with tracheostomies. Other respiratory services include Paediatric Transition, Neuromuscular, Long-Term Ventilation and Cystic Fibrosis Service. You will also be part of the 7-day respiratory service across the hospital. We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and innovative physiotherapist with expertise's within Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapy. You will have extensive experience excellent team working and time management skills. You will work alongside specialist physiotherapists, providing respiratory care to patients whilst working closely with the multi-professional team. You will have the opportunity to supervise and support students, Junior Physiotherapists, Therapy Support Workers and Physiotherapists in the wider on call service. Research and CPD opportunities are encouraged. This role is based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, however, as the Trust is a multi-site organisation, you may be required to work at any of the Trust sites.

Main duties of the job

To deliver highly specialist paediatric respiratory physiotherapy and act as a source of expertise to fellow clinicians, managers, healthcare professionals and other services internal and external to the trust, as required. The post holder will be required to work effectively in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, other health professionals to promote the development, planning and delivery of respiratory intervention programmes and training in this specialist field of practice. To undertake the role of inpatient paediatric respiratory lead that includes, planning, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating the inpatient paediatric therapy service. The post holder will undertake clinical audits, evaluating evidence-based practice, and endeavour to source high quality, up to date research within this specialist area. To support, co-ordinate, supervise and appraise staff and students within the specialist area. Applicants will be required to participate in the departmental respiratory adult and paediatric overnight on-call system and 7 day working rota within the adult and paediatric respiratory therapy teams. This post is based at our Heartlands site, however, as the Trust is a multi-site organisation you may be required to work at any of the Trust sites and may need to change your normal place of work, either temporarily or on a permanent basis because of development or reorganisation of Trust services.

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Good standard of general education including English language and mathematics, A levels or equivalent
  • *Degree in Physiotherapy
  • *Registered with HCPC as a Physiotherapist.
  • *Evidence of relevant postgraduate training in specialist area


Desirable

  • *Leadership training
  • *Postgraduate advanced accredited training within specialist area
  • *Registered member of the Chartered society of Physiotherapists
  • *Registered member of Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists


Experience

Essential

  • *Relevant postgraduate experience in specialist areas relevant to the post
  • *Experience of NHS based work.
  • *Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio including recent courses relevant to paediatric respiratory physiotherapy
  • *Evidence of IT skills
  • *A range of suitable experience of working within a primary care setting and/or acute paediatric respiratory inpatient setting
  • *Experience of acute respiratory work in paediatrics
  • *Ability to use paediatric physiotherapy respiratory clinical skills to systematically diagnose/assess patient/client problem.
  • *To understand and evaluate complex situations and information to formulate an appropriate course of action. The ability to frequently modify planned activity to suit the need of the individual.
  • *Experience of on-call work in paediatrics and adults respiratory physiotherapy.
  • *Experience of paediatric respiratory physiotherapy with management of complex patients
  • *Experience of effective staff co-ordination, support and leadership
  • *Experience of managing students at clinical tutor and supervisor levels
  • *Experience of training staff groups at all levels
  • *Evidence of working effectively in partnership with others within multi-disciplinary teams and across agencies


Desirable

  • *Experience of conducting or being involved in audit, implementing outcome measures and/or research in the specialist area.
  • *Experience of management of paediatric patients requiring NIV
  • *Experience of providing respiratory physiotherapy care within a paediatric HDU setting
  • *Experience of managing tracheostomy patients
  • * Considerable experience of NHS work
  • *Working knowledge of Government initiatives, NSF's etc.
