A fabulous opportunity has arisen to work in our award winning team. The North Children's Speech & Language Therapy Service is part of MPFT & provides a service to North Staffs, Stoke on Trent, Stafford, surrounding areas. We also provide services to the University Hospital of North Midlands, as well as to a range of other commissioners in educational/care settings.
We are a nationally recognised team for leadership and excellence in prioritisation, developing universal and targeted approach and training. Our innovative Stoke speaks out www.stokespeaks.org approach has won 16 national awards. Our North Staffordshire Risk Matrix prioritisation tool has been shared with over 20 NHS services & we have a strong local & national reputation for high quality.
This is a specialist post with clinical responsibility for children in community settings & a special interest in DLD/SSD. The post includes screening, assessment & management of speech, language and communication difficulties of children with advice to settings/schools. There is a requirement for flexible working & a willingness to take on different responsibilities according to the needs of the service, including the provision of training.
The post is part of the Community Paediatric Team & requires an active contribution to team working & management of the caseload across the service as a whole.Flexibility to go where the needs are be proactive & solution focussed and ability to manage/cope with conflicting demands.

Main duties of the job
- To assess, diagnose and manage the communication difficulties of children in Health Centres and other community settings.
- To advise and support parents/carers regarding the communication difficulties of their children.
- To provide written programmes to support therapy as required.
- To work closely with the multi-disciplinary team as required to support patient care.
- To provide written advice to contribute to the EHCP assessment and review process undertaken by the LA for children who have or may have special education needs.
- To provide specialist clinical support and advice to Speech/Language Therapy colleagues according to experience.
- To provide mentoring for newly qualified Speech/Language Therapists and students.
- To liaise with relevant medical, nursing, social services, voluntary sector and educational colleagues either directly or through the clinically relevant Advanced Speech/Language Therapist in relation to own responsibilities.
