Have you got an interest and a passion in Mental Health? We are looking to recruit highly motivated individuals to work across our Adult Mental Health inpatient services. You will be willing to provide an enthusiastic approach in supporting staff and students in their professional development through effective clinical leadership, sharing of knowledge and modelling the highest professional standards.

If you are an ambitious member of staff willing to provide energy and enthusiasm to drive Practice Development Nursing forward and are dynamic and interested in pro-actively supporting the facilitation of training and development for our clinical nursing teams, then you could be the person we are looking for.

Main duties of the job

Candidate's should hold a current professional registration with a professional body along with a recognised clinical teaching qualification or equivalent clinical mentoring and teaching experience. With a commitment to continual quality and service improvement, you will be responsible for ensuring services provide a progressive learning and development environment for all grades of staff including temporary staff and will ensure a high standard of care delivery through specialist knowledge and skills in clinical practice, providing advice, mentoring, supervision and training across services. You will implement key practice developments and quality initiatives in order to achieve excellence in patient care in partnership with nursing and clinical multidisciplinary teams.

You will provide a Senior Practitioner perspective in discussions with senior medical and clinical colleagues, Heads of Nursing and operational managers in developing a co-ordinated approach to service delivery which is informed by good nursing practice. You will promote and contribute to inter-professional learning activities across services and implement in-house teaching.

The post holder will be responsible for their personal and professional development whilst undertaking this role.

The role requires successful candidates to work 5 days per week Mon-Fri.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current professional registration with professional body
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma supplemented by specialist training or equivalent experience to master's level equivalent
  • Recognised clinical teaching qualification or equivalent clinical mentoring and teaching experience
  • Evidence of continuous personal development
  • Key skills in literacy, numeracy and ITQ level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Leadership qualification or willingness to work towards. Qualification must be achieved within agreed timescale
  • Quality Improvement Systems for Leaders or willing to undertake within agreed timescale


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience working with people with complex mental ill health or learning disabilities in an inpatient or community environment.
  • Extensive experience working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers
  • Extensive experience in a clinical nurse leadership role
  • Extensive experience providing clinical supervision, mentoring and teaching to healthcare professionals and students
  • Experience of been involved in the delivering of change and service improvement
  • Experience of resolving complex and challenging situations in collaboration with other disciplines and agencies


Desirable

  • Use of the Trust's quality Improvement System to implement change
  • Experience of working alongside higher education providers


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Sound knowledge of principles of nursing and how to apply these in a practice setting
  • Significant evidenced based knowledge of best practice in caring for patients in the designated field.
  • Provide effective leadership
  • Influence, initiate and manage change effectively
  • Good understanding of relevant legislation and guidance (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, CPA, Safe Staffing) and its application in practice.
  • Good understanding of clinical governance and its application in practice
  • Good understanding of Recovery principles and application in practice
  • Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice.
  • Detailed understanding of Care Programme Approach and its application in practice.
  • Detailed understanding of Clinical Risk Assessment and Management/Harm Minimisation and its application in practice
  • Research and development methodology
  • Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment
  • The Trust's Quality Improvement System (QIS) (or within agreed timescale).
  • Working knowledge of HR policies and procedures and when to escalate to the HR Department.
