We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join our team at Newham Hospital to lead in the acute assessment of patients admitted into the Emergency Department, as well as our Acute Assessment Unit and our Older Persons Wards. There is much opportunity to develop your clinical and leadership skills.
Main duties of the job
You will play a major and specialist role in the advanced assessment, treatment, clinical management and discharge planning of patients attending the Emergency Department (ED), as well as the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) and the Older Persons Service (OPS) wards in determining clinical diagnosis, functional deficits, treatment programs, pathway management and discharge planning. You will also be supporting the development of this area of service and shaping how therapy can best help patients in the Emergency Department setting and contributing to hospital flow.

- Diploma/degree in Occupational Therapy
- Registered with Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
Desirable
- Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy

- Extensive post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting in the NHS or similar health service
- Recent experience working at senior level in acute assessment, Emergency department, and/or admission avoidance roles and other relevant specialities including orthopaedics, medical, respiratory, frailty and neurology
- Competency and experience in working within a transdisciplinary environment
- Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience and confidence working within a high pressured and fast paced environment with use of positive risk taking approach
- Experience supervising and appraising staff and students
- Experience of leading audit
- Demonstrable involvement in identifying and participating in quality improvement projects
- Documented evidence of CPD, in accordance with HCPC recommendations

- Specialist therapy clinical skills in acute assessment of patents with a variety of complex pathologies with a special interest in frailty and rapid assessment, treatment and discharge planning

- Demonstrates initiative and ability to work independently at a senior level
- Understanding and application of risk management
