An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Highly specialist B7 Physiotherapist to join the STAR (Social, Therapy Assessment and Rehabilitation Team) Inpatient Therapy Team at St George's University Hospitals for a 12 month maternity cover. This is an ideal opportunity for those who have had experience working as a Band 6/7 in an inpatient setting and are looking to progress their career to a Band 7. The team covers the clinical areas of the Emergency Department, Acute Medicine Unit and Short Stay Ward.

This rewarding role will involve working directly with patients therefore we are looking for an enthusiastic, committed team player with excellent communication skills. As an organisation we will support the successful candidate in build on their current knowledge and skills, to be able to provide timely and effective patient treatment.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support the team to provide physiotherapy intervention and facilitate hospital discharges. The role will include gathering information from patients or families, assessing new patients, following treatment plans, exercise provision, providing education and motivation to patients, and maintaining up to date records in line with Trust policy. You be required to provide guidance and supervision. The post holder will become an integral part of our experienced, friendly, and supportive therapy team and will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team across multiple wards.

You will be involved in implementing service improvement projects and clinical audits aligned to the Trust Objectives and be actively involved in team and individual CPD in addition to your clinical responsibilities. You will be well supported and supervised and be given opportunities to consolidate and develop your skills. We offer regular supervision within a structured environment, individual performance review and CPD.

Qualifications and Training
Essential

  • oDegree or equivalent in physiotherapy
  • oHPC registration
  • oEvidence of CPD in musculoskeletal physiotherapy in the form of a detailed personal development portfolio
  • oPostgraduate education/courses in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
  • oRelevant special interest group membership
  • oMasters Degree or evidence of working at an equivalent level in musculoskeletal physiotherapy

Desirable

  • oFormal management training
  • oMSc in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
  • oMACP or equivalent clinical membership
  • oLeadership training

Experience
Essential

  • Post registration experience including out-patient musculoskeletal physiotherapy at Band 6 level to include Consultant referrals , GP referrals, Rheumatology, Orthopaedic In-patients, Chronic Pain Management
  • Experience of Classes/Group work/Circuits
  • Experience of working in the NHS or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of complex pain syndromes
  • Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology underlying musculoskeletal injuries
  • Good working knowledge of all areas of Clinical Governance Including quality, audit and risk management
  • Understands the legal responsibilities of the profession

Desirable

  • oExperience of: Hydrotherapy, Women's Health, Hands and Plastics, A& E
  • oExperience of service developments
  • oExperience with spreadsheets/data collection
  • oExperience of organising and chairing meetings
  • oExperience of lecturing externally

Skills and knowledge
Essential

  • oFluent in written and oral English, with the ability to communicate complex/contentious information in a clear and logical manner to a range of audiences e.g. service users, carers, other professionals, stakeholders
  • oAdvanced clinical reasoning skills in musculoskeletal physiotherapy
  • oResearch skills
  • oAbility to keep legible and accurate notes in English in the POMR system
  • oGood presentation skills
  • oGood teaching, supervisory & appraisal skills

Desirable

  • oActively involved in research and contribution to evidenced based practice
  • oSkilled in risk assessment
  • oAbility to create Power Point presentations
  • oAbility to run courses-internal/external
