A permanent vacancy has arisen for an Advanced Social Work Practitioner, to be based at Prescott House Adult Community Mental Health Team (CMHT).You will provide positive leadership, support and advice to social work staff and assist the Team Manager in ensuring the delivery of effective services for adults experiencing a range of severe mental health conditions.The post holder will lead on the delivery of statutory social care functions at the CMHT in accordance with the Care Act (2014), Mental Health Act (1983, as amended),Mental Capacity Act (2005) and other relevant legislation. You will have responsibility to provide line management and professional supervision to the team's social workers and act as supervisor to newly qualified ASYE social workers. You will need to model effective practice in complex situations, providing a strengths based and person centred approach while managing identified risks. You will need to network and liaise with a wider range of professionals and other colleagues, including at more senior or strategic levels. As the Advanced Social Work Practitioner you will be expected to promote a culture of professional curiosity and contribute to the positive social work identity within the organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide consultation and guidance with respect to complex social care practice issues to care coordinators and senior staff within the team.
  • Support and provide professional supervision to social workers working in the CMHT
  • Assist the Team Manager in providing leadership to the team and ensuring effective service delivery by promoting high standards of practice.
  • Act as Care Coordinator in accordance with the Care Programme Approach. The caseload will be significantly reduced in recognition of other duties.
  • Carry out social work duties and interventions in relation to complex cases, requiring the high levels of skills, knowledge and professional expertise.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Possession of a recognised Social Work qualification or equivalent.
  • Best Interest Assessor or willingness to undertake the training
  • Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) status or willingness to undertake the training
  • Registered with the SWE


Desirable

  • You have additional qualifications Post Qualifying courses such as best interests assessor or relevant other continued professional development


Experience

Essential

  • Substantial prior experience working with individuals presenting with mental health needs.
  • An understanding of the principles and values underlying the Care Act 2014 Mental Health Act (1983, as amended) and Mental Capacity Act (2005) and other legislation as they relate to this client group
  • Substantial experience acting as Enquiry Lead and undertaking adult safeguarding enquiries in line with s.42 Care Act (2014).
  • Substantial experience undertaking assessments and arranging packages of care in accordance with the Care Act (2014).


Desirable

  • Knowledge of relevant welfare rights legislation
  • Prior experience working as a care coordinator in community mental health services


Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Up to date knowledge of mental health, mental capacity and human rights legislation including current case law.
  • You must clearly evidence an understanding of the integration agenda the enablement model of health and social care what is personalisation and how do you ensure your work is person centred including knowledge of Making Safeguarding Personal.
  • You must clearly evidence that you have a clear understanding of the Social Worker role in a Community Mental Health Team.
  • Knowledge of relevant welfare rights legislation.


Desirable

  • Understanding and ability to interpret relevant legislation.
