We have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to provide strong effective leadership, and assist in the day to day running of the Emergency Department.
The candidates will need to be able to demonstrate a passion for Acute Emergency Medicine, leadership and be an excellent communicator and organiser. You will need to be active in dealing with complex and difficult situations and competing demands.
As a Emergency Department Deputy Sister/ Charge Nurse, you will be involved the assessment, co-ordination, and effective management of patient care. You will need to a creative thinker, problem-solver and team player.
As part of the role, you will also be the Ambulance Assessment Clinician, on a rotational basis with other Deputy Sister/Charge Nurses in the department. Shifts for this area will be over a seven day period, 10:00 - 22:00.
You will work in all areas of our busy Emergency Department, which include Triage, being Nurse in Charge, working in Resus, Minor Injury and in First Assessment.
This is an exciting opportunity as we are currently in the process of moving into our brand new Urgent Emergency Care (UEC) building.
You will undergo an induction and development programme facilitated by our dedicated team, and a supernumerary period will be provided to enable you to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to be successful.

Main duties of the job

- Support the Sister in ensuring the provision of excellent care, with compassion for the patients, relatives and visitors who are cared for within or by the ward, department, service or team.
- Ensure a high standard of nursing is delivered by self and others based on assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care to meet patients' needs in accordance with agreed local and National standards and evidence based guidelines.
- Assist and support the Ward Manager in the safe, effective management of the area, including management of personnel, facilities and the associated systems and processes
- Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation.
- Be responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of care, through appropriate professional practice, delegation and supervision of duties carried out by junior staff
- Proactively manage risk and maintain patient safety, conforming to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care.
- Promote equality in care and practice by recognising, respecting and meeting the needs and choices of individuals.
- Ensures environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness.
- To participate in education and training of junior staff.
