An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Community Children's Nursing Team for a Children's Special School Nurse - Wrexham. This is for an experienced Children's Nurse. The post holder will be responsible for the provision of nursing care within the school setting, providing hands on care and training around children who have complex health care nursing needs and potentially life limiting / threatening conditions. The post holder will be responsible for developing training programmes for education and health staff working within the school environment. The post holder will co-ordinate medical assessments, ensuring all health care plans are in in place for each child, and reviews are undertaken on a regular basis. The post holder will act as a resource for professionals who support Childrens with complex health needs in mainstream school.

This post will involve managing and taking the lead with a caseload of children within the school setting and supporting junior members of staff, students and health care support workers.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an experienced Children's Nurse with excellent communication skills and ability to work indecently, and within a multi-agency environment. The post holder will responsible for providing expert advice, information and care for children and young people.

Working in partnership to empower families and other health care workers to provide consistent evidence based care delivery to children and young people within their caseload.

Act as a resource to provide specialist advice to colleagues and others involved in the care of the child and family.

To provide support to families such as listening skills, at all points of contact and refer to appropriate services.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse - RSCN, Child Branch or equivalent.
  • Degree in Nursing and evidence of post registration learning.
  • ENB 998 Teaching and Assessing course or equivalent


Desirable

  • S.M.A.R.T. pack training


Skills

Essential

  • Ability to work in a team as well as on own initiative
  • Ability to communicate with children and families in relevant language
  • Ability to work without supervision and take charge/responsibility regularly in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility


Desirable

  • Commitment to developing appraisal and clinical supervision skills


Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience working as a Children's nurse
  • Experience with relevant portfolio of mentoring students demonstrating own development
  • Experience within the appropriate clinical area
