This is an exciting role that offers the opportunity to develop leadership experience as well as participate in clinical assessment and intervention. The CAMHS Neurodiversity service has been developing over the last couple of years and now incorporates assessment, intervention and support to young people with diagnosis or waiting for assessment of autism, tics/Tourette's, learning disabilities as well as ADHD and co-morbid mental health problems. You would be joining a friendly, passionate and experience multi professional team, ranging from nurses across all fields, social workers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapist, support workers, NMPs and Psychologist. This leadership role will require you to support registered and unregistered staff with their intervention and evaluation of care. This role gives you the perfect opportunity to expand your leadership and management experience.You will have key responsibilities relating to referrals and allocation of tasks as well as being a mentor and supervisor to students and new team members.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for supporting the emotional, psychological and social wellbeing of children and young people who have or are suspected of having a Neuro developmental Disorder ( ADHD, Learning disability, Autism, Tics or Tourettes).The post holder will provide a holistic assessment for children and young people, which will involve close liaison with the multi-agency network including schools and social care. The post holder will join a Multi-disciplinary Team and will work closely with other teams within the CAMHS service. They will hold a case load of complex need relating to the young persons neurodiversity or ongoing neuro-diverse assessment and has co-morbidity of mental health needs. They will assess and risk manage cases and provided clinical lead to non-registered staff for delegated tasks. The post holder will provide specialist clinical practice into the team for children and young people with neuro-developmental disorders, delivering intervention within best evidence and to the highest possible standard.The post holder will work across other teams within CAMHS

Job description

Job responsibilities

1.To improve children and young peoples mental health through the delivery of an integrated and coordinated system of community based mental health care to children, young people and their families, providing safe, culturally competent, effective, cost efficient, timely and accessible services that are in accordance with national and local priorities and responsive to the needs and views of local children, young people and their families.

2.To provide clinical input to the team, delivering practice within best evidence and to the highest possible standard. The post sits within the neurodiversity pathway within CAMHS based within the city offering mental health and neuro-developmental assessment and treatment interventions in line with NICE Guidelines. This can include individual work, group work and consultation

3.The post holder will demonstrate effective skills in the assessment and reassessment of risk and complex behavior issues and communicate concerns accurately in a timely fashion. This is inclusive of priority assessments and requires multi-agency responses to risk assessment and risk management plans. This will also include completing recognised assessments as part of the team to provide evidence for potential diagnosis when appropriate.

4.The post holder will make an autonomous decision about the treatment, time of discharge, and agree with the child, young person and family/carers as well as multi-agency key partners. Communicate a summary of the work undertaken and how to sustain improvements made and include correspondence to General Practitioner.

5.The post holder will contribute to the CAMHS Duty Rota which operates on a daily basis

6.Contribute to the development of team protocols and clinical practice, proposing changes for discussion.

Person Specification

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • 1. Knowledge of relevant legislation and documentation pertaining to children e.g. Children Act 2004, Child Protection, National Service Framework, Every Child Matters etc. Learning Disability specific legislation and documents, Aiming High for Disabled Children, Valuing People, Mansell report, Mental Capacity Act.
  • 2. Knowledge of a range of mental health problems and disorders affecting children and young people who are in care.


Qualifications

Essential

  • 1. Degree or Diploma in health or Social Care related subject.
  • 2. Current professional registration such as: NMC, HCPC, Social Work England etc
  • 3. Evidence of CPD relevant to this field of care.


Desirable

  • 1. post graduate training in relevant topics


Experience

Essential

  • 1. Experience (both work and life related) in Neurodiversity and or mental health.
  • 2. Experience in working in a multi disciplinary context.
  • 3.Experience in assessment, care planning and intervention for people with mental health difficulties.
  • 4. Experience in risk assessment and management.


Desirable

  • 1. Experience in providing supervision and mentoring.
  • 2.Experience in delivering training.
  • 3. Experience of post registration of working with young people with mental health difficulties.
  • 4.Experience in using total communication techniques to aid communication.
