This is an exciting opportunity for qualified CWPs to develop as a Senior Wellbeing Practitioner and supervisor, who will have been qualified for at least two years by January 2024.

The post holder will be expected to fulfil the requirements of and complete the Senior Wellbeing Practitioner Post Graduate diploma at Kings College London to enable progression to a fully qualified Advanced Practitioner CWP.

The Post holder will work as part of the Croydon CWP service to manage a defined caseload with a focus on providing focused assessment and evidence-based intervention for children and young people (CYP) with mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their parents/carers.

The post holder will be expected to provide Case Management and Clinical Skills Supervision to a number of CWPs within the service.

The post holder will travel to as appropriate and across the Trust when required and adapt working pattern to as appropriate in order to meet the demand from the community.

The post holder is expected to promote equality, diversity and inclusion within their own role, the service, and community settings that allows easy and timely access to those needing support for mild-moderate mental health difficulties.

Main duties of the job

This is a training role within the Children and Young People's Improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (CYP IAPT). The post-holders will work within CYP CWP aligned with a multidisciplinary team delivering, under supervision, high-quality outcome-informed, focused, evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing, mild to moderate anxiety, low mood, and behavioural difficulties.

The training and service experience will equip the post holders with the necessary knowledge, attitude and capabilities to operate effectively in an inclusive, value-driven service.

The post holders will attend all university-based taught and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within the agreed national curriculum, and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Communication
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with children, young people and their families and implement evidence based therapeutic interventions.
  • Ensure that all members of the multi-disciplinary team, their colleagues, service users and appropriate others are informed/updated of changes involving current care plans, progress, mental state, and psychosocial factors in line with best practice.
  • Liaise with and advise CYP and families, GPs, schools, local authority and other statutory bodies and third sector agencies including childrens safeguarding as required.
  • Communicate sensitive information to carers and relatives.
  • Use a range of communication styles and channels as appropriate to the task.
  • Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or children and young people in treatment, where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate written records on the electronic record system of the Trust, and external partners as required.

Analytical and Judgmental Skills / Freedom to Act
  • Undertake assessments, culminating in an agreed plan of action and/or care and intervention.
  • Undertake complex risk assessments and develop a formulation of risk which will lead to the development of risk management plans which have taken into consideration a range of possible outcomes.
  • Undertake and continuously re-evaluate complex bio-psycho-social assessments and develop a working formulation which will lead to the development of personalised needs-led care plan in line with evidence based and routine outcome measures.
  • Ensure that practice is evidence-based, paying attention to the Trusts and NICE guidelines, policies, protocols and pathways and other professional standards.
  • Be available for and participate in individual supervision with agreed clinical supervisor.
  • Implement, review and maintain Trust Policies and Procedures.

Planning and Organizational Skills
  • Ability to manage and coordinate diary and caseload.
  • Plan and organize interventions ensuring that reviews are held within the required time frame.
  • Support trainees and supervisees in the team.
  • Plan and manage a range of activities which may be complex in nature and delegate appropriate responsibilities to other members of the team.
  • Review, evaluate and adjust activities in response to the changing demands.

Responsibility for Patients /Service Users (SUs)
  • Assess patients/ SUs with mild to moderate mental health needs to ensure appropriate intervention or treatment offer.
  • Work in partnership with young people and their families to inform assessment, need and rationale for treatment intervention.
  • To work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to ensure safe working practice and positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • To follow safeguarding processes as appropriate or required.

Person Specification

Knowledge

Essential

  • A good working knowledge of the Mental health disorders in children and adolescents. A good working knowledge of difficulties common to Looked After Children e.g. attachment difficulties
  • A good working knowledge of Key legislation relevant to CAMHS setting: The Children Act 1989, 2004 and The Mental Health Act 1983, Human Rights Act 1998 and Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • A good working knowledge of the London Child protection procedures. Assessment of risk and management of risk factors
  • A good working knowledge of the principles underlying confidentiality and information sharing. The principles of clinical governance and CAMHS practice.


Desirable

  • Relevant research and its application to assessment, treatment and case management of CAMH disorders. Research informed and evidence based methods of assessment, treatment and case management.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience and ability to function as a practitioner in CYP mental health services.
  • Demonstrable post qualification experience, including experience of working with CYP's with mild to moderate mental health problems and their families using CBT or CBT informed GSH.
  • Experience of managing and prioritising a caseload.
  • Evidence of good practice in CAMHS assessment facilitation, including assessing: risk behaviour, impact of the lived experience, systemic functioning and managing difference in the clinical space.


Desirable

  • Working with families in a diverse environment
  • Experience in working as part of an MDT
  • Experience of undertaking qualitative and quantitative research methodology
  • Experience of supervising junior staff or trainees


Skills and Training

Essential

  • Ability to work therapeutically with the client group, using a range of therapeutic interventions
  • Ability to work under pressure. Ability to take on new concepts/forward thinking
  • Good written and verbal presentation skills. Basic IT and data entry skills to enter clinical information into databases
  • Ability to work within a changing environment. Ability to be 'reflective' in therapeutic practice and adapt practice from this reflection. Demonstrate an ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team


Desirable

  • Skill in using a specific therapy in practice


Qualifications

Essential

  • CYP - IAPT Post-Graduate Diploma or Certificate (CWP/EMHP) with two years post qualification experience within an MHST or CWP service by January 2023.


Desirable

  • Evidence of CPD relevant to working with CYP in schools or community settings
  • Formal training in parenting interventions i.e. Incredible Years.
