We are seeking a capable band 6 to join our Critical Care team as a Clinical Educator at West Herts NHS Trust.
Our ICU is a 20 bedded unit based at Watford General Hospital.
This role will primarily focus on provision of high-quality staff development for Critical Care Staff following national guidelines and frameworks.
This post holder will have completed a UK accredited, 60-credit post graduate award in Intensive Care Nursing.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible, under the supervision of the lead Practice Development Nurse for the provision multiple educational workstreams.
This includes bedside and classroom based training.
The post holder will support staff undertaking external post graduate academic courses.
Assessment of competencies using the national critical care competency assessment process.

- Provide bedside supervision and instruction to members of the nursing team.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise and act as a professional role model to all staff, both internal and external to the Trust.
- Delegate appropriately to ensure consistent, co-ordinated care.
- Apply specialist knowledge and skills to deliver a holistic plan of care for all patients.
- Assess and monitor documentation and record keeping for care delivered to all patients, in accordance with NMC regulations.
- Demonstrate specialist expertise and professional knowledge acquired through post registration academic study, clinical, leadership and management development. Work and act as a role model for professional practice and leadership.
- To maintain and develop quality initiatives including Patient Involvement & Experience Strategy, Patient Satisfaction Surveys, and audit as part of a programme of Clinical Governance.
- To maintain contemporaneous nursing records in accordance with West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust Guidelines for the Completion of Nursing and Midwifery Documentation (2017) and NMCs The Code (2018).
- To undertake the administration of medicines in accordance with NMCs The Code (2018) and West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trusts Medicines Management Policy.
- To ensure that you remain up to date with the use of Trust wide medical devices and ICU specific devices.

Education and qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse.
- NMC Registration. Diploma in Nursing. Mentorship
- Completion of an accredited post graduate Critical Care Course (minimum60 credits) as defined in National Standards for Adult Critical Care Nurse Education (CC3N, 2016)
- Evidence of ongoing development & education related to Critical Care
- Band 6 level clinical practice within critical care.
- Completion of National Competency Framework for Registered Nurses in Adult Critical Care Step one, two and three competencies (CC3N, 2015).
Desirable
- Masters level appropriate academic courses related to speciality
- PGCERT in clinical education or equivalent.
- Sign off Mentor or willing to undertake the course.
- Leadership qualification
Knowledge
Essential
- Evidence of active involvement in developing new ways of working
- High level clinical skills and knowledge relating to critical care nursing, including organ support
- Up to date knowledge of relevant political and professional issues in healthcare
- Awareness of the national guidelines and frameworks for adult critical c are nurses
- Evidence of excellent communication skills including verbal, non-verbal and written

Experience

- Experience in mentoring, assessing and supervising junior colleagues. Substantial experience within the critical care environment.
