We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to work on our Adult Mental Health Ward in the Harrow Mental Health Centre, Northwick Park Hospital.
Our adult mental health ward are 18-bed adults inpatient ward in Harrow Mental Health unit. Eastlake Ward is predominately for working-age adults in mental health crisis and requiring acute hospital admission.
The successful candidates will be highly motivated, energetic and passionate about delivering high quality care to patients acute and chronic psychiatric conditions, ensuring that assessment and interventions are provided in a sensitive, accessible and culturally appropriate way.
Main duties of the job
The position requires full GMC registration and we are looking for candidates with at least three years' experience in general adult psychiatry to work in a busy acute psychiatric ward for inpatients. The post-holders will be part of a medical team of a ward consisting of a Consultant Psychiatrist and up to two Trainee Doctors. The post-holders will contribute to and help the Trainees with their development as well as contribute to cover when the consultant is on leave. Applicants should have experience of team working, possess sound organisation skills and be able to work on their own initiative. Effective communication and empathic skills are essential, and a commitment to outstanding patient care.
In line with the NHS 10-year long term plan, CNWL Harrow has embedded the Trauma Informed Approach, for, in our mental health wards. All staff receive regular training and supervision in both formulation and treatment, using this approach. The Inpatient care is delivered by an integrated multi-disciplinary team with a shared sense of ownership for the ward environment as well as the clinical services provided. The post-holders will adopt a pragmatic leadership style as a way of promoting this type of ward environment, thus ensuring collaborative working both at a clinical and an operational level.

The clinical duties of this post are 10 sessions at Adult In-patient Ward. There are no outpatient or community duties in this post.As part of each team, post-holder would be involved in the assessment and management of adults with mental health problems in a multi-disciplinary team approach under the leadership of the Consultant Psychiatrist.
Assessment (including assessment of risk), treatment and management of adults with mental health problems (functional and organic) admitted to the ward. Treatment, using a sound knowledge of the evidence for pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, in accordance with NICE and relevant guidance. Formulating specialist opinion about a bio-psycho-social care plan. Contribution to Care Quality through audit and relevant participation in local and Trust wide care quality fora and processes Active involvement in teaching of undergraduate medical students Supervising the clinical work of Core Psychiatric Trainee, and multidisciplinary colleagues. Provide support to staff in the different applications of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act. Supporting Consultant Psychiatrist in chairing CPA meetings and Ward Rounds, Best Interest Meetings and presenting in MHA Tribunals/Managers Hearing. Supporting the MDT team to provide the best clinical care for patients Accurate record keeping according to Trust and professional guidelines.
