CNWL are currently looking for a Locum Appointed Doctor covering a CT1-3 in Adult Psychiatry within Park Royal Centre for Mental Health

The Low Secure forensic unit provides acute and rehabilitation services, to the adult male population of Brent and Harrow and offers exposure to the complexity of managing mentally disordered offenders located in secure units, Magistrate's and Crown Courts and Her Majesty's Prisons.

Main duties of the job

The medical team consists of a full time Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, full time Specialty Doctor and a psychiatric trainee.

The nursing and medical teams are served by a full range of therapy staff including a Consultant Clinical & Forensic Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Psychology Assistant, Drama Therapist, Arts Therapists and Sports Therapist.

The service maintains strong links with acute adult services as well as medium secure and prison In-Reach services. It provides medical support to the Harrow Focus Team, one session per week.

Park Royal Secure Services consist of the following:
  • Tasman Ward -17 bedded Low Secure Ward
  • Java House - 6 bedded open forensic rehabilitation ward
  • Caspian Ward - 13 bedded PICU

All wards provide a service to those aged 18-65 years who are residents of the London Boroughs of Brent and Harrow.

Job description Job responsibilities

  • The assessment and management of new referrals
  • The ongoing assessment and management of inpatients on Tasman ward (16 bed low secure unit) and Java House (6 bed open forensic rehabilitation unit), including contributing to multidisciplinary reviews by presenting updated clinical information on patients and documenting the multidisciplinary discussion. The LAS doctor will work in collaboration with Specialty Doctor, Dr Ahmed Elsemary.
  • Participation in CPA meetings and completed relevant documentation including CPA reports.
  • The preparation of psychiatric reports and clinical referrals to mental health and physical health services.
  • To arrange cross cover with the CT1-3 colleagues the postholder is expected to swap on call duties when on leave.
  • You are also expected to gain experience in preparation of Managers hearings and Medial Health Review Tribunals for in-patients.
  • You will maintain accurate, legible, contemporaneous and useful clinical records for all patients in whose care you are involved.


Person Specification Educational and Professional Qualifications Essential
  • Primary Medical Degree Full GMC Registration
Desirable
  • MRCPsych (or equivalent)
  • Higher degree (MSc, LLM, MD or PhD)
General knowledge/ experience & core skills Essential
  • Experience of assessment and treatment of mental disorders in psychiatric setting
  • Experience of assessment and treatment of mental disorders in psychiatric setting
  • Experience of risk assessment and management.
Desirable
  • Completed research projects
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience of using the Mental Health Act
Other attributes Essential
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable
  • Evidence of evidence based medicine training, teaching and implementation.
  • Training and experience of relevant therapies
