We are currently looking for a 8 PA consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist to work within the Neuro-Developmental Team within Kensington & Chelsea CAMHS (CNWL). This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, innovative and dedicated child and adolescent psychiatrist with creative ideas for service development, keen to work with dynamic and passionate consultant colleagues and MDT clinicians and to collaborate with paediatricians, schools, children's services and allied health professionals. You will be working alongside friendly and supportive consultant colleagues. There are opportunities for teaching and training, for example as part of the higher training scheme and strong links with Imperial College London to develop research interests.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be expected to provide psychiatric leadership to the Neurodevelopmental Team (NDT). They will provide clinical input to the NDT including conducting initial assessments, psychiatric assessments, risk assessments and delivering treatments including the initiation and monitoring of pharmacological treatments as well as specialist NDT assessments. The postholder will be expected to support the MDT with regard to comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management planning, guided by the CAMHS care pathways and clinical model. They will also provide psychiatric consultation to the NDT MDT and the wider CAMHS team when indicated. The post holder will be expected to support the MDT in working to their job plans with regard to current expectations of 16 clinical contacts per week (which includes one new assessment and 15 other clinical contacts) for staff with no supervisory or management responsibilities. The postholder will be expected to liaise with NHS England, Commissioners and Tier 4 services when referral to Tier 4 is indicated and to liaise with Tier 4 services and contribute to CRAFT, CETR and CPA meetings.

Central and North West London (CNWL) specialises in caring for people with a wide range of mental and physical health needs and is one of the largest mental health trusts in England. Each CAMHS service has its own local management structure: Kensington & Chelsea CAMHS has a Lead Psychiatrist, Therapies lead and team manager who work closely with the outer boroughs service manager. Each sub-team has a psychiatry and therapy lead and they, together with the team and service manager form the local senior management team which meets monthly. The post holder will be part of the SMT. The Kensington & Chelsea CAMHS team is well established and staffed by a large multi-disciplinary team of clinicians. We aim to provide an accessible, flexible and responsive local service for patients and professionals working with children in the area using a range of therapeutic interventions including behaviour, systemic, CBT, IPT-A, DBT, psycho-dynamic and group therapies as well as psychopharmacological approaches. Kensington & Chelsea CAMHS is a Tier 3 service, accepting referrals from GPs, paediatrics, schools and Children's Services. The service has active service user groups for young people and parents. The team has a monthly CPD session and local care quality meeting, a monthly local consultants meeting and a monthly senior management meeting which the post holder will be part of.

General child and adolescent psychiatric work including Clinical supervision of junior doctors in Psychiatry and to ensure they have a broad experience in CAMHS. The focus of this post is on your developmental psychiatry. However the post holder will, will be expected tosupport the wider Kensington & Chelsea CAMHS team, and will also be part of the daytime duty rota at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.There is a plan to bid for a CT, who would be clinically supervised by the post holder. It is expected that consultant psychiatrist support the CTs lately supervised by other consultants in the service, especially in the case annual leave or emergencies.To participate in the development of specialist clinical services to children and adolescents referred to K&C CAMHS with the above difficulties.Supervision of the clinical input and case management of the nurses in generic CAMHS.Clinically related management and administrative responsibilities in the department as appropriate.To participate in training and teaching of medical staff in training and all other staff.To work in collaboration with other Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists in the Trust in developing and planning a comprehensive CAMHS service.Maintaining up-to-date Continuing Professional Development.Participation in assessment clinics &/or direct assessment of children for diagnostic purposes or advising on risk.Participate in the local Consultant daily Duty Rota, responding to risk queries as required.Participation in CNWL CAMHS service wide on call rota.There is currently a workload of approximately 70 cases, most of them joint. All cases on the psychiatry caseload are internal referrals. There is a substantive amount of consultations, which occupy approximately 3 hours a week.

Person Specification Education and Qualifications Essential
  • Primary Medical Degree
  • Section 12 MHA Approved
  • Approved Clinician status or achievable in a reasonable amount of time.
  • GMC Licence to Practice
Desirable
  • An additional post graduate qualification of relevance to working with children and Adolescents
  • ADOS trained
  • ADI/3-DI trained
  • BOSA trained
  • MRCPsych or equivalent
Training Desirable
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date)
  • Specific training in family therapy, group therapy or individual therapy.
  • Completed training for Clinical Supervisor role, or willingness to attend training.
Experience, Skills and Abilities Essential
  • Competence in psycho- pharmacology and also non- medication therapeutic approaches.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance/Care Quality
  • Able to participate in Medical Audit and Quality Improvement
  • Experience of teaching and supervision of junior staff and other disciplines
