The role of the Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Upper GI Team is to work alongside other Band 7 team members in the assessment, implementation and evaluation of patient care for those who present with UGI cancer investigation and diagnosis and related conditions.
The successful applicant must be willing to be flexible to meet the needs of this team and must demonstrate knowledge, expertise and passion in working within the speciality of Upper GI surgery and or Oncology
The nurse specialist will work in collaboration with specialist and other professional teams.

- oCurrent registration with appropriate professional body
- oMaster's degree or equivalent or willingness to work towards/equivalent experience.
- oDegree in health/nursing related studies
- oRelevant post-registration study relevant to Upper GI pathway / willingness to undertake at degree/masters level
Experience

- oSignificant post registration experience at band 6 or above, to include caring for Upper GI Surgical/ Oncology patients
- oExperience in supervision of registered, non-registered staff and students
- oAbility to convey sensitive information in an empathetic manner to patients, relatives and staff
- oLeadership and management experience
- oEvidence of teaching and assessment skills

- oPresenting at meetings/conferences
- oExperience of setting up and developing a new service
