We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join our nursing team. Torcross ward is a busy 8 bedded Coronary Care unit. We are also a tertiary referral centre for cardiac conditions in the South West . The patients we care for include those with acute coronary syndrome undergoing PPCI. In addition to this, patients with arrhythmias, heart failure and preoperative cardiac surgery .

We aim to provide a friendly and professional working environment, whilst delivering a high standard of care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for co-ordinating and delivering effective quality nursing care following a patient centred model of practice, ensuring the ward runs efficiently.

Assessing the needs, planning, implementing and evaluating the care for a group of patients.

Work as part of the multidisciplinary team

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***

Job responsibilities

  • Providing and delivering a high standard of nursing care by initiating and co-ordinating the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patients needs based on evidence.
  • Reporting and documentation of all relevant nursing needs communicating changes with other health care professionals in the multidisciplinary team with ongoing responsibility for patient care as they occur.
  • Promoting and delivering health education within the clinical area and advice to patients, family and others in Health promotion issues.
  • Demonstrate an undertaking evidence-based practise playing an active part in the introduction of this evidence to improve patient centred care
  • Supervising, assessing, mentoring and supporting junior staff where appropriate, including bank and agency staff
  • Increasing the level of knowledge and skills within the ward/directorate through sharing best practice and supporting others to develop their professional abilities
  • Implementing and sharing good infection control practice
  • Undertaking manual handling assessments and ensuring identified actions are met
  • Day to day direct supervision of patients and staff


Person Specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience within a similar role.


Desirable

  • Completed Preceptorship
  • Demonstrable experience of cardiac nursing


Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registered


Desirable

  • Mentorship qualification or demonstrable experience
  • Basic Computer skills or computer literate (e.g. ECDL)
  • Relevant cardiac course


APTITUDE & ABILITIES

Essential

  • Good communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritise workload
  • Attention to detail
