We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, compassionate and empowering clinical or counselling psychologist to work with Older People and those who have been diagnosed with a dementia related condition on our inpatient wards in Epping, Essex. We are looking for someone who has a passion for working with older people and ensuring high quality psychological provision for this client group. We are a team who support each other and strive to end systemic, social, and structural as well as age related inequalities in health care.

We would encourage those colleagues who may be looking for a career change as we have a robust support system in place and can help colleagues to adapt and work successfully in the rewarding field of older adult psychology. We would also encourage those who may be working towards qualifying as a clinical psychologist to reach out to us as we have a successful progression policy to support advancement to an 8A role in our service.

This offer significant opportunities for training and development and the post holder will be supported to gain specialist skills in working with older people in inpatient settings.

Main duties of the job

To provide a clinical psychology service to the older adult inpatient wards in South Essex. To provide specialist psychological assessment and intervention on a 1:1 or group basis. To conduct neuropsychological assessment and behavioural observations to promote understanding of client presentations. To promote and facilitate shared psychological conceptualisations in the multi-disciplinary team and support ward staff to deliver psychologically-driven interventions. To provide consultancy and supervision when appropriate, identify and deliver on training needs relating to psychological knowledge and understanding, and provide opportunities for reflective practice. To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research.

Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical or Counselling psychology


Desirable

  • Post-doctoral training therapeutic interventions
  • pre-qualification training and qualifications in research or staff training
  • knowledge and experience of working wit people with cognitive impairments


Knowledge

Essential

  • Doctorate level knowledge of research


Desirable

  • knowledge of specialised psychological therapies
  • knowledge of theory and practice of at least two therapy models
  • knowledge of factors associated with older people's needs
  • knowledge of relevant legislation, frameworks
