A number of unique opportunities have arisen for highly experienced Occupational Therapists to join the Occupational Therapy Orthopaedic Service at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Trust and be involved in delivery of this high priority service.

The Trust is delighted to have the opportunity to develop a new Kent & Medway Orthopaedic Centre and we are looking for experienced, dynamic, innovative and forward thinking Occupational Therapists to be involved in this exciting opportunity. We are looking for a highly specialist Band 7 Occupational Therapist for the elective orthopaedic wards and to support with the development of the Pre Assessment pathway with the service Manager.

You will be a highly skilled clinician with expert orthopaedic clinical knowledge, skills and experience.

Main duties of the job

You will join an experienced and committed multi professional team in delivery of an integrated approach to the orthopaedic pathway. You will be involved in supporting the orthopaedic Occupational Therapy team in delivery of evidence based care, develop and support service improvement both within Occupational Therapy and the wider team, proactively engaging with colleagues across the orthopaedic pathway to facilitate consistency of service delivery and innovation.

You will need to have a flexible approach, be resourceful and enthusiastic in demonstrating the impact and added value that Occupational Therapy brings to the pathway. Excellent time management, resilience and prioritisation skills are essential for delivery of an efficient and effective service.

Seven day working is embedded in the orthopaedic service and you will support both organisation and delivery of this.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Graduate Diploma / BSc/ Post Graduate Degree in Occupational Therapy/MSc
  • Registered with Health Professions Council
  • Evidence of relevant in depth postgraduate study or qualification
  • Practice Educator Training
  • Member of relevant interest groups


Desirable

  • Member of British Association of Occupational Therapists
  • Training in management and leadership skills


Experience

Essential

  • Post graduate experience in Orthopaedics
  • Evidence of experience working at band 6 level, or equivalent in an acute environment managing patients with orthopaedic conditions
  • Demonstrate specialist Orthopaedic clinical skills and knowledge
  • Experience of developing junior occupational therapy and other staff through CPD / PDP/ clinical supervision
  • Managing a complex/highly complex caseload
  • Experience of working as part of an occupational therapy team and/or multi disciplinary team
  • Training and clinical supervision of clinical staff and students including teaching of specialist skills.
  • Experience of working with support workers
  • Experience of audit
  • Supervision of Students
  • Active participation in research
  • Managing change & service development


Skills

Essential

  • Required to work at masters level or equivalent in terms of knowledge, training and experience
  • Ability to teach specific occupational therapy treatment packages to patients / carers / others
  • Effective communication skills in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Good organisation and time-management skills
  • Ability to lead, develop, and motivate others
  • Drive and enthusiasm for clinical excellence using EBP and clinical networks
  • Able to manage own time and caseload, balance management and clinical work
  • oAble to delegate tasks
  • Evidence of active participation in In-Service Training & Clinical governance
  • Demonstrate an ability and enthusiasm to develop evidence base for clinical practice
  • Ability to function as an expert autonomous practitioner
  • Able to manage patients with behavioural/social/communication difficulties and to impart difficult/distressing information to patients and carers
