We are recruiting for a Bereavement Support Midwifewho shares our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

Main duties of the job

They will assist in the co-ordination of care given to ensure consistency of high care leading to a high quality seamless service.

The post holder will be expected to work clinically providing care to these ladies where appropriate from diagnosis of poor outcome through the intrapartum and postnatal pathway including co-ordinating and attending follow-up clinics.

The successful applicant will provide home visits postnatally and provide clinical care and support in the next pregnancy

Job responsibilities

The role covers patient care, staff education and support and building a good rapport with various external agencies
  • To act as a role model by demonstrating high standards of behaviour and professionalism, through commitment to the integration of policies and procedures within this role and workplace.
  • To deliver educational training programmes meeting the needs of multidisciplinary staff and students in relation to bereavement issues.

The bereavement support midwife, as a clinical specialist will assist the Bereavement Midwife to provide support to women and their families who have experienced fetal loss or the death of a baby within the maternity setting. This will commence in the antenatal period and continue once the woman has gone home.

They will provide guidance and support to midwifery and medical staff when caring for women experiencing loss in pregnancy, stillbirth or early neonatal death.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Midwife
  • Degree / at least evidence of study at degree level
  • Mentorship qualification with sign off status


Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Band 6 held for at least 2 years
  • Has experience of supporting and working directly with mothers and families
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working
  • Can recognise deviation from the normal and knows what action to take.
  • Understanding the complexity of providing clinical care whilst providing the sensitivity of midwifery and bereavement management
  • Can demonstrate awareness of key issues currently impacting on the maternity care


Skills

  • Informed decision making skills
  • Knows principles of infection control and health and safety legislation
  • Ability to function under pressure
