We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced cardiac rehabilitation physiotherapist to join our team as we look to expand our service to new patient groups and new exercise venues.

The post holder will take a lead in developing individual and group exercise programs for people recovering from a cardiac event and will be involved in service planning to provide care to patients across North Bristol. This will also be an opportunity to work with our colleagues in UHBW to share good practice and build towards a collaborative cardiac rehab service. The post holder will bring their clinical expertise to our MDT to ensure the highest possible standard of rehabilitation to our patients.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Band 6 Physiotherapists are experienced clinicians - having completed core rotations as a Band 5 Physiotherapist. The post-holder will act as an autonomous practitioner, providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment, and managing their own patient caseload within the Cardiac Rehabilitation team. They will supervise and train Band 4 and band 3 cardiac rehab technicians and students as required, and will be able to provide specialist physiotherapy advice to the rest of the MDT.

The post-holder will work across Southmead Hospital, Cossham Hospital and within community leisure centres across North Bristol.

The post holder will be responsible for implementing and delivering a safe and comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation program along with other members of the MDT.

This will include specialised assessment and exercise prescription for patients with cardiac conditions and complex comorbidities.

The post-holder will take a lead alongside other exercise specialists in the provision of exercise prescription and delivering the exercise component of the cardiac rehabilitation program in a variety of delivery models.

Essential

  • Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Health Professions Council Registered
  • Experience in core areas as graduate physiotherapist


Desirable

  • Specialist training to Master's equivalent level

  • BACPR Physical Activity and Exercise in Cardiovascular Disease training or equivalent
  • BACPR Physical Activity and Exercise in Heart Failure training or equivalent
  • Competent IT Skills


Desirable

  • BACPR Level 4 Exercise Instructor training
  • Experience and knowledge of working in a community setting
  • Experience of working in the NHS
  • Leadership Skills

  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Immediate Life Support qualification or willing to undergo
  • Cardiac rehabilitation working experience
  • Experience in contributing to clinical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants
  • Experience conducting exercise based consultations
  • Experience of exercise pre-screening, conducting functional capacity assessment and exercise prescription to patients with cardiac conditions
  • Experience of leading a group exercise Session, seated exercise Session, gym based sessions and one to one session to patients with cardiac conditions
  • Effective communication skills - verbally and written to staff, patients and relatives including in situations of conflict or distress
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to travel between sites around Bristol
  • Ability to effectively perform patient assessments & interventions, including manual therapy & therapeutic handling


Desirable

  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Involvement in Relevant Special Clinical Interest Groups (BACPR/ACPICR)
  • Audit experience

Essential

  • Extensive knowledge about cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation, extensive knowledge of NICE guidelines, BACPR guidelines and ACPICR guidelines
  • Extensive knowledge about cardiac medications especially with relevance to exercise
  • Experience in adapting exercise to a wide range of co-morbidities
  • Demonstrable knowledge of exercise physiology and able to apply this in the treatment of cardiac patients and those with co-morbidities
  • Demonstrate assessment, analytical & reflective skills across a diverse patient group
