An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Speech and Language Therapist to join our innovative and passionate team working in the elderly care homes in Rotherham. Our service is a true MDT, working closely together to improve the lives of residents in care homes. Our MDT comprises of nursing and therapy colleagues and we work collaboratively to address the holistic needs of our patients. While your caseload will be largely managed autonomously, you will join a Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in the team who will provide supervision and support. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, a passion for improving the lives of older people.
Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the county and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate would take on an existing position working clinically with patients with swallow and communication problems. They would also have the opportunity to work with care home staff to improve the quality of care in care homes through both training and project work

- SLT experience of which working with an adult caseload
- Experience of MDT working
- Experience of supervising and training others
- Experience of both in-patient and out-patient and community settings including dysphagia

- Experience of close MDT working
- Experience with acquired communication disorders
Qualifications

- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
- Post Graduate Dysphagia qualification
- Independent working and experience with Dysphagia according to RCLST Dysphagia Competencies

- Knowledge of a range of assessment and therapeutic options for treating Acquired Communication Disorders displaying a high level of skill in specialist areas
- Knowledge of how dysphagia presents and impacts on a range of adult acquired disorders, including dementia, and an awareness of management, treatment and therapeutic options
- Strong sense of what the SLT role brings to a diverse MDT and a sound understanding of other MDT roles
- Knowledge of accountability and efficacy including practices for evaluating outcomes e.g. care aims
