To provide the highest quality care to patients on the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit within the Berrywood Hospital, Northampton.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will play a pivotal role in ensuring proactive, recovery-focused, individualised treatment plans are in place and being followed for each patient. He will be supported with a team of professionals who have been recruited specifically for this unit. Our intention is to have a short length of stay to manage only the acute phase of illness and support care in the least restrictive manner.

- MRCPsych or equivalent
- On Specialist Register/CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
- Approval under Section12 of the Mental Health Act
- Minimum of six years postgraduate experience (including three years as SpR in approved training post) or equivalent

- Additional Postgraduate Qualifications
- Management training

Essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels
- Ability to present complex information to a variety of audiences including courts and tribunals
- Ability to motivate and develop junior Medical Staff and other MDT members
- An understanding of the political and financial framework within which the Services operate
Desirable
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
