An incredibly exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time band 7 midwife to shape the future of midwifery practice within Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust, based on the QEW site. We are looking to recruit a Clinical Practice Facilitator to at Queen Elizabeth, who will join and be supported by the established cross site midwifery education team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic experienced midwife who has: a passion for midwifery a commitment to upholding professional standards and to safeguarding of the profession is conversant with NMC and Health Education England (HEE) education pathways, plans and strategies an extensive knowledge of applying evidence-based theory to practice and experience of practicing within a variety of areas, to support the development and educational needs of our student midwives.

The successful candidate will be a highly visible role model for clinical education, an expert practitioner and change agent promoting a learning environment in all areas of the midwifery service and provide practical, clinical training and support, to student midwives and their practice supervisors.

Main duties of the job

You will support and improve the learning in clinical practice for both the return to practice midwives and undergraduate students whilst reducing attrition rates.

You will further develop midwives in their role as teachers and assessors, whilst ensuring students are fit for purpose at the point of qualifying.

You will ensure there is a quality learning environment.

We are very proud of our partnership working with our local HEIs who you will work collaboratively with to develop clinical education within the Midwifery Department and Universities. You will be responsible for maintaining this relationship and are the bridge from practice back to theory through supporting the facilitation of skills sessions at the Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) representing the Trust at meetings involvement with interviews at the HEIs encouraging and facilitating midwives involvement with HEI activities and regularly liaising with your link lecturers.

    Job responsibilities

    To co-ordinate and facilitate the educational activities of individual pre and post registration students, by working in partnership with the HEI to promote evidenced based learning in the development of midwifery practice, encompassing local and national service objectives.

    Work in partnership with the Trust and HEI leading on student placement mapping. Create practice based opportunities for learning match practice based learning to coincide with theory taught in the classroom.

    To provide and assure a safe and effective clinical placement for midwifery students, child-branch student-nurses on maternity placement and work experience candidates.

    Provide clinical and professional advice ensuring optimal use of skills of all staff working within areas.

    Provide practice based continuing professional development for practice supervisors and practice assessors, including education and skills in teaching and assessing in clinical practice.

    To co-ordinate attendance at practice assessor courses for midwives ensuring ratio of assessors to students is maintained.

    To develop and maintain SSSA database.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications and Training

    Essential

    • Registered Midwife
    • First Degree or equivalent advanced study
    • Practice Assessor (SSSA Standard)
    • Ability to demonstrate effective communication both written and verbal
    • Ability to contribute pro-actively to a multidisciplinary team
    • Good organisational and leadership skills
    • Ability to initiate, evaluate and sustain change
    • Excellent, all round midwifery skills
    • Good presentation skills.
    • Good IT skills


    Desirable

    • Masters or willingness to work towards achieving
    • Practice Teacher / teaching qualification
    • Risk management and quality assurance experience


    Experience

    Essential

    • Significant experience of working as a midwife
    • Currently clinically based
    • Excellent clinical teaching and assessing skills
    • Evidence of managing a team of midwives and taking a lead in multi- professional work.
    • Experience facilitating Training sessions


    Desirable

    • Clinical audit and service evaluation
