We have an exciting opportunity to join our MSK team as a rotational B6 physiotherapist. We offer rotations in upper limb, gym, hands, spinal, hydro and VFC as well as a mixed caseload rotation at a satellite clinic at Fleet Hospital and observation of our chronic pain team.

We offer lots of opportunities for training and development within our highly experienced and approachable team of physios, APP's and FCP's. We are passionate about growing our staff into highly skilled and evidenced based practitioners with a wide knowledge base to deliver the best care to our patients.

We are at an exciting point in our departments future development with a new large purpose built department space currently being developed in Farnham Hospital which will allow us to reshape our service to provide our patients with care closer to home. You will need to be able to work out of Frimley, Fleet and Farnham clinics for different rotations.

Main duties of the job

You should have MSK experience either at Band 5 or Band 6 level and be confident assessing and treating a range of MSK conditions.

You should be proactive, approachable and keen to develop your clinical knowledge and supervisory skills.

You will manage your own caseload and line manage junior physios. You will be involved in the supervision and teaching of students. You will take part in team and departmental IST's and there will be opportunities to assist with departmental audits and service development.

Job responsibilities

Clinical
  • To be responsible for implementing within your clinical practice, the relevant standards and policies
  • To propose and make changes to working practices in consultation with the speciality lead where applicable
  • To maintain a high standard of clinical care using evidence based practices and evaluate the outcomes
  • To be responsible as an autonomous practitioner to undertake a significant clinical caseload using developed clinical skills, seeking guidance when required.
Management
  • To achieve planning the effective daily management of a caseload of patients including responding to urgent referrals and unpredictable work patterns. This will require frequent concentration in an unpredictable environment.
  • To be able to plan and prioritise clinical and managerial workload and balance other patient related and professional activities in accordance with the departmental requirements
  • To be able to manage potentially stressful, upsetting or emotional situations in an empathetic manner
  • To work with the physiotherapy team to provide an efficient and effective service and to be involved in the proposal/development and implementation of department policies and the yearly performance plan
Communication
  • To liaise with other physiotherapists as necessary with regard to patient care
  • To communicate effectively with other disciplines both internally and externally to ensure multidisciplinary approach to care both verbally and by providing clinic letters and discharge reports
  • To be able to communicate complex and sensitive information to patients, carers and other staff including imparting unwelcome news
  • To ensure timely and effective communication with the Physiotherapy Manager and senior staff on all professional matters
Education
  • To assist in the induction, training and supervision of Band 5 physiotherapists on rotation in the clinical area
  • To assist in the supervision and development of students on placement in the clinical area
  • To be responsible for and actively record your own personal development
  • To be pro-active with regard to learning from senior staff within the department
  • To keep abreast of all new developments which includes attending relevant study days and visits to specialist units
Research and Audit
  • To assist in appropriate work related research/evaluation projects and to be aware of current research relevant to the speciality
  • In line with the Trusts commitment to Clinical Governance, to initiate and carry through clinical audit programmes and evaluate your own clinical effectiveness
  • To play a significant role in the specialities annual quality plan which, as part of the Performance Plan, is monitored on a quarterly basis


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Relevant CPD courses


Desirable

  • Member of relevant clinical interest group
  • Evidence of some managerial training


Experience

Essential

  • Completed variety of B5 rotations including outpatients
  • Previous work in NHS as a physiotherapist


Desirable

  • Experience at B6 level
  • Experience contributing to audit or research


Competencies specific to the role

Essential

  • Supervisory and appraisal skills and experience
  • Involvement in delivering training and teaching to assistants / Band 5


Desirable

  • Clinical educators training
