You must be a first level registered nurse with a current NMC registration.
Candidates should have at least 2 years post registration experience within surgery. You must be able to demonstrate leadership skills.
Once appointed the candidate will be expected to deputise for the Band 7 in her absence and be versed in the role of the Band 7.
Main duties of the job
The Band 6 role includes coordinating the shift on a daily basis. Ensuring that the flow of patients through the ward from admission to discharge is completed in a timely and safe manner. They will also be responsible ensuring the staff are promoting high standards of care and challenge poor practice.
They will also be responsible for rota planning to ensure a safe nurse patient ratio per shift. Development of junior staff is a key part of the role. See person spec for remaining criteria. Candidates should hold current mentorship skills and be able to perform extended roles such as IV administration and preferably be epidural trained.
