We are looking to recruit a Registered Mental Health of Learning Disability Nurse to join our well-established team. Swale Ward is a 15 is a bedded Personality Disorder.

The post offers the successful candidate a unique opportunity to develop their knowledge and experience of specialist forensic pathways all under one roof.

The team is forward thinking and promotes a psychological and trauma informed approach with a focus upon a relational model of security. The post is required to cover a range of shifts including long days and night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

You will be involved in providing a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment for the service users. You will work within the nursing team and work closely with the MDT.

You will act as care co-ordinator to service users and be involved in MDT's, CPA's and mental health tribunals.

You will administer prescribed medication and also support patients in managing their mental health and physical health conditions.

All successful candidates will be offered a comprehensive and structured development package, including clinical and professional development. Clinical supervision and facilitated reflective practice are key elements of our practice and will be on offer to yourself.

The service operates the shift model of Long day and Night shifts across at 7 day period.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Part III or 13 of NMC live register
  • Degree or equivalent knowledge/experiential learning in either nursing, mental health, learning disability or related area
  • Willingness to undertake mentorship training and responsibilities


Desirable

  • Be on the live register for mentors
  • Demonstrable experience of mentoring pre-registration students
  • Evidence of current CPD/formal qualifications at an advanced level e.g. degree or post graduate level or equivalent knowledge/experiential learning


Experience

Essential

  • Willingness to undertake and complete preceptorship facilitating the transition for newly qualified nurse booklet and core competency development programme.
  • Appropriate knowledge/experience of working in mental health/learning disability clinical practice areas
  • Understanding of caseload management and care co-ordination responsibilities


Desirable

  • Evidence of working in secure services
  • Successful completion of preceptorship
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at specialist level of care
  • Evidence of specialist practice skills and able to demonstrate the impact of this on practice change/development
  • Evidence of promoting/supporting active user/carer involvement/participation
  • Act as Care Programme Approach (CPA) co-ordinator


Knowledge

Essential

  • A broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. Mental Capacity Act, Social Inclusion
  • An understanding of relevant clinical practice/standards within identified clinical area
  • Standard IT skills


Desirable

  • Full understanding of relevant policy, drivers and their application to clinical and service area, e.g. NSF, Social Inclusion
  • Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
