**THIS IS A TRAINING, ANNEX 21 ROLE**
The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent clinical experience with the ability to study at master's level, have excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously. It will be necessary to undertake the PG Certificate in Gynaecology and 1st Trimester Ultrasound at a CASE-approved establishment with practical training being provided in UHP. The course takes up to 1 year and the successful candidate must be willing and able to travel to UWE Bristol for the theory components of the course. To be offered full time part time hours may be available but, in order to meet the demands of the course, it will be necessary to work at least 28.5 hours/week clinically.
The Emergency Gynaecology Unit and Early pregnancy unit is a Nurse-led service with support when required from the Consultant on call. A willingness to take responsibility and make decisions after careful history-taking and examination is essential along with the ability to explain all findings to the patient and involve her in making plans for further investigation and/or treatment. The role can be psychologically demanding, particularly in the Early Pregnancy Unit where you will often have to break bad news but it can also be very rewarding.
Main duties of the job
***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as 'Priority' and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
To undertake training to the required standard in the assessment, examination and management of patients accessing Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy services.
To undertake PG Certificate in Gynaecology and 1st trimester ultrasound at a CASE-approved establishment. The expectation will be that the training will be completed within one year with progression to independent practice as a nurse sonographer with a 6-month period of post-qualification preceptorship.
To work as a key member of a small team, the post holder will contribute to the future development of the emergency service for patients experiencing gynaecological or early pregnancy problems, through participation in development initiatives.
The post is not area specific all trust employees will work as appropriate to the needs of the service.
