The post holder will support the cancer services and oncology teams to provide Clinical, professional and managerial leadership, ensuring high standards of Evidence based practice.

This nurse led service requires the post holder work autonomously in ensuring the safe co-ordination, triage clinical assessment, treatment planning, decision making and diagnosis during the patients care pathway. The post holder must be proactive in the development and implementation of the clinical service and long-term strategic direction of the Acute Oncology service, maintaining compliance, ensuring person centred care and evaluates the patient experience across the service.

Main duties of the job

This nurse led service requires the post holder work autonomously in ensuring the safe co-ordination, triage clinical assessment, treatment planning, decision making and diagnosis during the patients care pathway. The post holder must be proactive in the development and implementation of the clinical service and long term strategic direction of the Acute Oncology service, maintaining compliance, ensuring person centred care and evaluates the patient experience across the service.

The post holder is key member of the Acute Oncology Service to ensure safe care to patients and service users and maintain a safe environment for all according to local and national standards and evaluating across the service. Expectation for the practitioner to promote effective workplace cultures across the new team, support acute oncology pathways within the organization to sustain person-center safe effective care. As part of this team the post may require the holder to work on other sites with East Kent Hospital Trust, in order to meet service requirements and to ensure that staff maintain and develop their skills. In addition to covering the acute oncology service, the post holder will be expected to support Brain, CUP and sarcoma patients.

Knowledge

Essential

  • specialist knowledge in cancer care, service development, acute care skills, clinical audit


Desirable

  • knowledge of cancer pathways, able to write written reports and generate data, able to present written and verbal handovers


Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN, NMC registration, degree, teaching


Desirable

  • non medical prescribing, master degree, clinical skills and examination, service development


Skills

Essential

  • advanced clinical assessment, advanced communication skills, leadership skills, excellent written and verbal skills


Desirable

  • project management skills, triaging skills, ability to work under pressure, demonstrate the Trusts Values


Experience

Essential

  • experience with a range of acute settings, band 6 experience for a minimum of 2 years , minimum of five years experience as a band 5, experience caring for cancer patients


Desirable

  • 5 years clinical experience, experience in ED, chemotherapy knowledge
