We are seeking to recruit an experienced Clinical Technologist in Radiotherapy Physics at our Queen Elizabeth Hospital site to lead the Mould Room service.

The Radiotherapy Physics Service has 48 WTE scientific and technical staff working to help deliver approximately 60,000 radiotherapy patient fractions per year on six Elekta Versa linear accelerators with FFF capability, two TomoTherapy HD units, a Radixact unit and a CyberKnife. The department has three wide-bore CT scanners, a dedicated HDR suite, a superficial x-ray unit and uses the RayStation and Precision planning systems. 4DCT, SABR and SGRT techniques are in routine use, as is a well-developed adaptive planning service.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day running of the Radiotherapy Physics Mould Room Service. This will include but not be limited to: creating bespoke immobilisation devices for patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment, including thermoplastic masks, lead masks for superficial treatment, vacuum bags, specific boluses, training of staff, of all bands from apprentices upwards, and maintaining staff training records, developing the service and keeping abreast of current developments, stock control and obtaining quotes, liaising with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the best quality treatment for our patients.

Due to our commitment to ensuring the best care for our patients, the post holder will be expected to participate in an on-call weekend rota.

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Relevant BSc or equivalent.
  • *Subsequent Field Work / Training Courses / Updating and experience in Radiotherapy Physics Technology, with specialisation in Mould Room work and in Health Service Management.
  • *Training and experience in work-based training supervision, assessment and moderation.
  • *Membership of the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (MIPEM) or equivalent professional registration (HCPC)


Desirable

  • *Post-graduate diploma/MSc in relevant healthcare studies or evidence of equivalent in-depth further study.


Experience

Essential

  • *Service-related knowledge (Significant experience working in an acute hospital setting/ Extensive experience working in a large complex organisation in a Healthcare environment/ Experience working in an administrative environment)
  • *Knowledge of the NHS
  • *Experience of working in a particular setting e.g. Radiotherapy Physics and evidence of competencies achieved suitable for a senior member of staff
  • *Carrying out research and or/ audits
  • *Clinical experience in Mould Room setting to include BDS production, Pb mask making
  • *Working with Treatment Planning Systems for radiotherapy dose calculations
  • *Experience of managing staff
  • *Experience of managing and analysing complex data
  • *Experience of communicating with a wide range of staff
  • *Experience of writing reports
  • *Good understanding of data protection/ confidentiality principles (related to personally and/or commercially sensitive information)
  • *Experience of stock management within a team.

  • *Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others
  • *Awareness of current relevant NHS policy context
