As a key member of the business intelligence analytics team this role will support the development and maintenance of reporting solutions delivered to trust staff. This will involve utilising all available technologies including Microsoft PowerBI, Data models, SQL Server and all Microsoft office products to develop fit for purpose reporting solutions. The role will support staff to access a wide range of reports and dashboards via the WUTH Business Intelligence (BI) Portal.

Working closely with the BI business partners for a division this role will gather reporting requirements, design and develop reporting solutions and attend meeting to support divisional requirements.

The role will also be responsible, as part of an analyst group, for the timely completion of mandatory and statutory data submissions to external organisations e.g. ICB and NHS England

Main duties of the job

To support the design, development and maintenance of web-based reporting solutions, proactively support the provision of analytics and Business Intelligence across the trust

To proactively share knowledge with colleagues and support the delivery of training on a regular basis to end users within WUTH to improve overall skill levels in the retrieval of data/analytics

To identify any data quality issues that might arise between Cerner Millennium, the trusts data warehouse(s) and the Business Intelligence reporting solutions

To develop efficient automated processes to ensure the reporting solutions are updated in accordance with agreed timescales to support national returns and local reporting requirements

Working with the BI Business Partners to ensure robust monitoring of reporting solutions are in place to highlight any issues including data quality and completeness

To assist in the management, production and timely delivery of a diverse range of ad-hoc information requests

Ensure that all reporting processes are fully documented and reviewed on a regular basis and proactively identify where processes can be changed to improve service delivery

Qualifications, Specific Experience and Training

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent, relevant experience in an information/business intelligence department
  • Good SQL skills including the development of efficient data models
  • Good understanding of how to use Business Intelligence software tools (e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, business objects etc.)
  • Experience of working with complex datasets and processing those datasets into automated data flows. Ability to identify and interpret the information needs of end users to support the development process
  • IT skills to allow full use of Microsoft Office software


Desirable

  • Undertaking or completion of additional training to demonstrate expert knowledge of analytical techniques
  • Understanding and experience using clinical and operational data within an acute hospital e.g. clinical coding (HRG, OPCS4, ICD10, SNOMED), clinical terminology, Payment by Results, Service Line Reporting and contract planning


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Excellent knowledge of analysing and interpreting large datasets and good understanding of visualising data/information for end users
  • Experience using complex computerised information systems. Experience in a healthcare setting would be beneficial but not essential i.e. Cerner Millennium or another EPR
  • Ability to gather user requirements and convert into meaningful business intelligence reports
  • Good analytical skills to support multiple large datasets sometimes from different data sources and in different formats
  • A logical and analytical approach to problem solving demonstrated in a data driven environment
  • Excellent skills in the analysis, presentation and interpretation of information
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify the most appropriate solution from several options and to resolve using your own initiative
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to establish and maintain good relationships with other team members and with service users, and to influence clinicians and managers, ability to communicate with non-computer literate staff at all levels
  • Excellent organisational skills relating to creating and maintaining electronic filing systems, locating data and information and meeting deadlines
  • Commitment to share experience and knowledge and to keep others informed of issues of importance and relevance
  • Training of end users both Information and noninformation staff in application reporting and data model development
