An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to join our well established team on Hazel Ward (Emergency Surgical Assessment Unit) at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle. We believe that happy, supported staff provide the highest standard of care. The successful candidate will benefit from working alongside a supportive, experienced team. ESAU is a 16/17 bedded unit accepting acute surgical referrals from GPs, A+E, Outpatient clinics and Same Day Emergency Care. The unit also accommodates some gynaecological emergencies, A+E trauma and some ENT emergencies.

The ideal candidate will thrive in this fast paced, exciting environment. We welcome applicants from experienced and newly qualified nurses and previous newly qualified staff have highlighted the level of support.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to be responsible for their own team of patients and duties include completing admission packages, medication administration (oral, sub-cutaneous, intravenous and intra-muscular) care of patients pre and post operatively, management of naso-gastric tubes, drain management, wound management, stoma care, discharge planning.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

The Trust is committed to safeguarding adults and children therefore if the post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended) the successful candidate(s) will be subject to a criminal records check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: £18 + Administration cost of £3.85 = £21.85. Deducted at £6.85 from 1st month salary and £5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: £38 + administration cost of £3.90 = £41.90. Deducted at £11.90 from 1st month salary and £10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse (adult) with active registration


Desirable

  • NST 307 or equivalent.
  • Relevant postgraduate development or equivalent.


Experience
