We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse who is interested in Ophthalmology and it's developing service. The post holder will be a key contributor in delivering a highly skilled ophthalmic service to patients with sight threatening conditions. There will be a combination of clinical skill and managerial support for this role and the post holder will become a skilled practitioner in triaging and managing eye emergency capacity within the service, liaising with GP's Opticians and other referrers into the service. Key attributes will include, patient focussed, exceptional communication skills, and an eagerness to learn clinically.

Main duties of the job

This is a senior Nursing/Midwifery role within the organisation and there is an expectation that the post holder will fully participate in the leadership and delivery of high quality patient care within the Surgical and Cancer Division.

The post holder will be a practitioner within Ophthalmology speciality.

The prime function of the role is to provide clinical expertise in supporting the delivery of high standards of nursing care for patients within the Ophthalmology pathway.

Work collaboratively with the multi professional team to develop and maintain a quality service for patients within speciality

To provide expert clinical nursing, education and advice in all aspects of the speciality.

Facilitate an improvement in the quality of health and outcome of care to this client group.

To act as a source of expertise and knowledge for patients, carers and health professionals as well as other agencies involved in this speciality.

To work with multi-disciplinary teams both in hospital and the community, in the provision of optimal care, to improve quality of life.

The post-holder is responsible for supporting the continuous improvement of quality of services and safeguarding high standards of care by sustaining an environment in which excellence in clinical care can flourish.
