We are currently seeking a passionate Occupational Therapist at band 6 level to join our Integrated Stroke Early Supported Discharge and Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service.

Our integrated service provides stroke rehabilitation and community neuro rehabilitation support to service users with complex needs.

Main duties of the job

As a band 6 Occupational Therapist, you will have the chance to work with a team of highly skilled & experienced professionals including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech & Language Therapists, Psychologists, Specialist Nurses and Neuro Rehab assistants. Together we strive to deliver outstanding care to our service users.

You will be responsible for managing a clinical caseload across the North of Cambridgeshire & shaping the service to support the development of your colleagues. You will provide comprehensive assessments & deliver evidence-based specialist neuro occupational therapy programs to support patients with physical, cognitive & psychosocial needs. You will work collaboratively with the Multidisciplinary Team.

Job responsibilities

Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. You cannot use public transport for this role as this is not a reliable form of transport and will not allow you to meet service needs.   • To provide a high standard of Neuro Occupational Therapy, performing assessments of patients and to deliver an individual treatment programme.
  • To provide ESD in-reach to the community beds for patients under the ESD service and work with patients in their own homes for both ESD and Neuro rehab patients.
  • To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service working unsupervised within the multi-professional Integrated Stroke ESD and Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team.
  • To be accountable for assessing, interpreting, planning, implementing, and evaluating treatment to patients under the care of the Integrated Stroke ESD and Community Neuro Rehabilitation Team within professional guidelines, with the support of Specialist and Advanced Practitioners within the team. Providing appropriate equipment and rehabilitation programmes and making referrals on to other professionals and agencies as appropriate in order to meet the identified needs.
  • To identify patient needs, agree goals and provide appropriate therapy interventions relating to their physical, functional, and psychological needs.
  • To be involved in providing 6 month reviews for stroke survivors.
  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects for your own and delegated work.
  • To work within Trust, RCOT, and HCPC guidelines and to have a good working knowledge of national and local standards of practice in line with legal and operational requirements and use own professional judgement to vary from established practices where required.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent, e.g. BSc, MSc or Diploma entry level qualification into the OT profession.
  • Current HCPC registration.
  • Documented evidence of own continuing professional development
  • Willingness to undertake Fieldwork/Practice Educator qualification.


Desirable

  • Member of RCOT
  • Specialist Section Neurological Practice (SSNP)
  • Fieldwork/Practice Educator qualification.


Experience

Essential

  • Relevant post-graduate clinical experience in a variety of settings
  • Experience of working in Neuro Rehab and post graduate training in the field of neuro rehab
  • Experience of working with people with cognitive problems


Desirable

  • Experience of equipment provision
  • Community experience
  • Experience and knowledge of housing legislation, minor and major adaptations.

  • Kneel, bend & stoop, and work in cramped environments.
  • To use moving and handling equipment to manoeuvre patients.
