The Emergency Department at NNUH is seeking to recruit highly motivated and passionate individuals to join our team as a Deputy Sister / Charge Nurse. The NNUH hosts the busiest Emergency Department in the East of England seeing over 120,000 patients every year.

This role is key in continuing our #JourneytoOutstanding and ensuring that patients are at the heart of everything we do. We're looking for an individual with excellent communication skills who is capable of providing the highest possible standard of patient care.You'll work within a varied Multi-disciplinary Team, playing a vital part in ensuring a safe, timely and effective patient experience.

Main duties of the job

Maintain a high standard of research-based nursing practice delivering patient care under the direction of the Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse.

To participate in the teaching programme of the department

To act as leader in the clinical area in the absence of sister/charge nurse, taking charge of the department as required.

To work as an Emergency Nurse Practitioner or be willing to undertake training.

To work in accordance with the standards set by the Nursing / Midwifery Professional Bodies and Trust Nursing Policies and Guidelines.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1.Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.2. Assist the Ward/Department manager in maintaining standards of nursing practice.

3.Carry out and advise/supervise junior staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluating of nursing care.4.Carry out the daily personal care of patients.5.To take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the Ward/Department Sister/ Charge Nurse.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register
  • Post registration qualification relevant to the clinical area eg Advance life support course


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience at Band 5 level, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the specialty
  • Experience of managing and leading a clinical area


Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competency in advanced clinical skills including enhanced practice
