Come and join our nursing team in Children and Young Peoples' Daycare and Outpatients Department!
Are you looking for that next step in your cancer nursing journey? Are you a paediatric or adult trained nurse willing to join the fantastic Children's and Young People's department at the Royal Marsden?
Our busy CYP Daycare and Outpatients sees over 6000 thousand patients a year, requiring systemic anti-cancer therapy, radiotherapy, and supportive care, delivered by our team. The age range of our patients is 1 to 24 year old, making CYPDU a very unique unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital. Are you willing to get experience in areas of cancer care delivery and SACT administration, then we want to hear from you!
We are looking for candidates that has the drive and passion to bring ideas forward, lead on projects to improve the patients journey through the service. The candidate will need a qualification in oncology or speciality as essential requirement for a Band 6, but we want to support you in this journey. The candidate will be expected to take an active role in the unit leadership in managing the service in line with the trust values and improvements both identified and to be identified. The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills and will demonstrate consistent positive role modelling to support developing both the team and our pre and post registration placement.
Main duties of the job
To plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way, which has been drawn up in conjunction with the co-ordinator of the shift.
To develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities administered within the unit.
To develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of managing a shift with the guidance of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.

- To complete the first level assessment of the patients needs to gain an understanding of the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs of the patients with cancer and their families and to develop a positive, realistic and supportive attitude to ensure that the needs of the patient and family are met.
