Clinical Simulation Nurse

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, self-directed, innovative candidate with excellent communication skills to help develop & deliver a high quality clinical simulation training programme for Nursing staff & allied health professionals. Additionally you will have responsibility for delivery of nursing elements within multi-professional simulations, including the support of Nursing/AHP learners. This role will aim to enhance patient safety through training, with a focus on team-working, communication skills and learning from critical incidents. The post holder will work with key educational leads to develop the training offer.

Simulated scenarios will be delivered within our new simulation suite or In situ in clinical areas.

Main duties of the job

Promote and publicise benefits of simulation training within clinical groups/specialties with a particular focus on nursing groups.

Support learning though simulation/clinical scenarios.

Contribute to the planning and preparation for scenarios and teaching sessions in different environments within the Trust.

Liaise with clinical experts to review the content of training programmes on a regular basis and contribute educational expertise to staff development programmes.

The post holder will work as part of the Simulation Team, which is currently primarily based in the Education Centre at Cumberland Infirmary. The Simulation Team is part of the Medical Education Department which has oversight of both undergraduate and postgraduate education within the Trust, with links to regional training through Health Education England-North East.

For the clinical element of this role the post holder will work within their current clinical setting.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Professional health care qualification, to a minimum of degree level, with up to date professional registration
  • Evidence of post registration development and/or further academic study
  • Immediate life support and/or AIMS provider
  • Coaching/Mentorship/practice assessor qualification or equivalent
  • Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards this
  • Simulation training qualification or equivalent experience


Desirable

  • Masters level study
  • Advanced life support provider


Knowledge

Essential

  • Significant post registration experience in clinical practice
  • Experience of delivering formal training in a variety of settings
  • Awareness of benefits of simulation and multi-professional team training
  • Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating learning programmes for diverse staff groups
  • Experience of supporting learners and providing guidance to staff and managers regarding learning
  • Knowledge of professional requirements related to supporting learners in practice eg. NMC, HCPC
