The role is to provide leadership for the People Advisory Team, by designing and delivering a strategy for employee relations (ER) at UHDB, anchored in a people-centred approach and early resolution. The role is responsible for engaging with stakeholders to understand organisational demands in the remit, evaluating the service to ensure it is effectively delivering. The post-holder will utilise coaching and mentoring to develop the team to achieve the vision. The role will be responsible for the creation of KPI's and executive reporting of ER analytical data, monitoring performance against these and shaping defined service level agreements. In addition, the role is responsible for improving ER outcomes through enhancing line manager capability and employee engagement, working with partners and colleagues to improve workplace experience at UHDB in line with just culture and respectful resolution.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for the management of a team totalling approximately 13 whole time equivalent and Employee Relations costs such as solicitor and ET fees , responsible for employee relations across UHDB, providing support to over 14,500 colleagues. This includes complex legal advice and management of cases to minimise risk to the organisation. Furthermore, the role is responsible for development of all people related policies, drawing on subject matter experts to create these. The role leads on consultation and negotiation of policies with Trade Unions via formal committee. In addition, there is responsibility for supporting the Trusts formal 'people' change governance. The post holder will be expected to communicate with leaders to advise, guide and influence. They will also be required to articulate performance information and strategy to colleagues. They will communicate highly complex information including explaining complex matters of employment law and its implications to managers and staff at all levels of the organisation. The post holder will have relationships with directors, managers, staff side representatives, as well as with solicitors acting for the Trust and against the trust. The post holder may from time to time have to communicate orally and in writing with the employment tribunal service on both factual and technical matters.

Job description
Job responsibilities
- Lead and develop the team to ensure that a high-quality professional people advisory service is provided, evaluating performance in line with KPIs and SLAs to optimise impact.
- Devise the strategy and enabling plan for the team to improve ER in terms of outcomes and learning across the Trust.
- Develop and implement mechanisms to maintain consistency of interpretation and practice of, employment legislation, policies and procedures, best practice principles and national terms and conditions of service.
- Oversee the design and delivery of HR skills and knowledge training for line managers.
- Work collaboratively with Trade Union colleagues and local partners to embed partnership working in all aspects of employee relations practice, whilst overseeing the collation of Trade Union Facility Time and Accreditation of TU Officials.
- Support the Trusts Compassionate and Inclusive agenda, embedding Inclusion into the employee relations Policy, Process and Team practices.
- Lead the development, review, implementation and consultation/ negotiation of people policies and organisational change initiatives via corporate committees, engaging and positively influencing recognised Trade Unions. Record, monitor and analyse trends to inform policy development, employee information, management guidance and training needs, including the use of automation, self-help and guidance as necessary.
- Contribute to People Services Leadership strategy and direction and work to embed new programmes and initiatives within the People Advisory Team.
- Being the subject matter expert on policy, terms and conditions including advice for the wider business on the strategic employee relations agenda.
- Draft monthly, quarterly and yearly ER performance reports for boards and provide key trend data and insights. Coach and mentor direct reports to develop their skills and performance in their role.
- Responsible for finance relating to the ER team such as legal fees. Work with Finance and Law Firms to track, monitor and projects future costs.
- Develop excellent collaborative working relationships with senior leaders across the organisation to enable partnership working in the delivery of projects and improvements and to facilitate cultural change.
- Oversee the governance of the Trust's Organisational Change Review Group to ensure consistency of the management of organisational change processes across the Trust, tracking and reporting on associated savings.
