An exciting opportunity to be involved at the cutting edge of life sciences innovation in east London.

Barts Life Sciences is our programme for using research, innovation and technology to transform health and care services. This covers a broad range of activities from discovery science, product development and testing, and the adoption of new technology. Life sciences in Whitechapel is firmly based on the principles of partnership and collaboration, with patients, clinicians, a wide range of commercial and other academic partners, local government and the local community. Main duties of the job

This role is for a talented senior data or computational scientist to lead the data science team at Barts Life Sciences, developing applications using AI and machine learning to create innovative health care products and services. Using the Barts Health real-world health data assets, the postholder will have access to technical expertise, data and computational power, knowledge and innovation to lead a range of innovative data science projects.

You will have a PhD in data science or related field and significant experience in developing and managing data science projects in health care.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • oSignificant experience managing, structuring, and analysing NHS hospital level data, including building statistical models and working with different clinical data terminologies
  • oSignificant experience leading complex data science projects with multiple stakeholders within a hospital context
  • oFamiliarity with a number of numerical methods and computational approaches to the analysis and interrogation of mathematical models
  • oExperience of implementing research and technical policies including changes to practices with impact on other disciplines, or translates research findings into policies affecting clinical and technical service provision


Communication

Essential

  • Able to present complex information effectively to senior staff, senior consultants and other senior Executive / Non-executive staff within and outside the NHS, including the ability to present complex or technical information clearly and the ability to work with others to understand the problems they face.


Knowledge

Essential

  • oAdvanced theoretical and practical data science knowledge gained through significant experience in health data science or computational biology
  • oUnderstanding of digital health innovations


Qualifications

Essential

  • PhD qualification or equivalent expertise/experience in a quantitative scientific discipline (eg mathematics, statistics, engineering, physics, computational biology, computer science or a relevant discipline).
