Band 6 Clinical Sciences and Patient Experience Specialist Podiatrist

The Podiatry Service in CLCH is dedicated to change and innovation and we are looking for new members of the team who are excited by doing things differently and breaking down the traditional divisions within the profession. Our goal is to create a new care pathway that makes targeted use of clinical sciences to develop clear patient centred, evidence-based packages of care for all appropriate referrals to the podiatry service. This work will inform projects to share learning through presentation and publication, so this role provides one day per week dedicated to research.

Main duties of the job

To actively participate in the CLCH Podiatry band 6 rotational programs.

To autonomously assess and diagnose patients with a diverse range of medical and podiatric conditions, using appropriate diagnostic techniques, skills and tools. This includes sharp debridement of lesions, administration of local anaesthesia, whilst quantifying the maximum safe doses, nail surgery, and use of noxious caustics.

To create and implement a tailored treatment and specialised care plans using a variety of appropriate treatment regimes for a range of patient groups including those in the 'high risk' and 'at risk' categories focusing on the management of primary foot pathologies.

To undertake the following additional specialist clinics as part of CPD and a clinical rotation programme (this list is not exhaustive and may change):

Biomechanics clinicsWound Care clinicsNail Surgery clinics

To recommend the use of a limited number of prescription medicines

Education/Qualification

Essential

  • BSc Degree In Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified prior 1991)
  • Evidence of continual professional and personal development
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council
  • Certificate in local anaesthesia


Desirable

  • Evidence of post grad training in specialist area of podiatry


Experience

Essential

  • Post graduate clinical experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working
  • Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease / pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot
  • Experience of working as part of a specialist team (clinical rotation experience accepted


Desirable

  • Experience of working in an NHS environment
  • Experience of clinical supervision / mentoring
  • Experience of service development


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of service development
  • Full knowledge of podiatric theory and practice
  • Knowledge of foot orthotic design and manufacture
  • Knowledge of CoP code of conduct
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance -theory and practice
  • Up-to-date knowledge of clinical issues and treatment development
  • IT Skills including use of Internet, e-mail, Word Processing


Desirable

  • Presentation Skills / Experience at delivering Health Promotion
