Band 6 Physiotherapist in Older Adults - Sub-Acute General Medical In-Patient Wards/ Intermediate Care Unit In-Patients

Full-time: 37 1/2 hours

Fixed Term Contract (12 month Maternity cover)

Primarily based at West Heath Hospital, may require cover to other In-Patient Units across the Birmingham area

We are seeking an enthusiastic physiotherapist with a special interest in the rehabilitation of older adults, often presenting with complex multiple pathologies, to join our In-Patient Rehabilitation Team. Our Inpatient Therapy Service covers a large geographical area within Birmingham and includes areas within an Intermediate Care Unit and Sub-acute Medical Wards.

This post offers an exciting challenge to work within the Discharge to Assess Model with a complex clinical caseload of general medical, trauma and orthopaedics and neurological conditions of older people, and focuses on client-centred practice within a holistic approach.

Create an environment where clients are able to be at the centre of their own care anddecision making processes sensitive to the needs of individuals. Respect the dignity,wishes and beliefs of service users, involving them in shared decision making andobtaining their consent to treatment/referrals.To deliver a range of treatments which will include the manual handling of clients and equipment including its carriage and fitting, and adapting the home environment tomaximise safety.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years of appropriate qualified experience
  • Demonstrates ability to generate written communication that is relevant, concise, accurate and legible.
  • Experience as a Student practitioner
  • Experience in supervising Junior staff
  • Knowledge of the use of orthotics.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively in a team and delegate work to others as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively in an appropriate manner, including where barriers to understanding exist.


Desirable

  • Driving licence
  • Able to commence post within a short time frame
  • Able to work flexibly, with the potential for 7 day working/working across other InPatient units across the Trust, expected to offer expert clinical skills and leadership to the designated Team / Site as opposed to an designated ward or unit.


Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
  • Degree or diploma in Physiotherapy.
