The Acute Respiratory Care Unit, cares for patients with a variety of lung conditions including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Asthma, Lung cancer, Lung fibrosis and Tuberculosis. This also includes caring for our patients at the end of their life providing high quality and compassionate palliative care.
Staff will receive ongoing training and development across a wide range of in house courses, offering respiratory competencies in caring for and delivering CPAP/NIV and various other lung conditions. We are affiliated with the University of Bradford and offer fully funded support for registered nurses to undertake the post graduate Advanced Respiratory Care module at BSc or MSc level, with many staff continuing to work towards the PG Cert in Advanced Clinical Practice.
Main duties of the job
The post is an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team which contributes to the effective and economic use of available resources.
The postholder will be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and is required to teach junior staff, both qualified and unqualified. When designated is expected to take charge of a Ward or Department.
To assess, plan, implement and assist with the evaluation of individual programmes of care for the acutely ill medical patient. Offer advice and support to the patient's families and friends responding to their individual needs.
Communicate with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate continuity of care.
