An exciting opportunity has arisen for temporary band 6 Deputy Ward Manager to join a fantastic team within Renal and General Medicine on Ward 36.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated individual with an interest in Renal and general medicine to support the ward manager to ensure the delivery of a high standard of care to all our patients.

You must be highly skilled with excellent clinical knowledge, demonstrating a clear understanding of the trusts values and behaviours.

Main duties of the job

  • Designated to take regular charge of the ward/department in the absence of the Ward/Departmental manager.
  • Ensure appropriate use of financial and other resources supporting the ward manager in maintaining a balanced budget.
  • Act as an expert practitioner within the appropriate speciality, participating in direct patient care and demonstrating an advanced level and practice and knowledge.
  • Ensure the effective and timely admission and discharge of patients.
  • Assist in creating a therapeutic environment which meets the needs of patients, relatives and carers.
  • Assist in promoting a critical, analytic approach to delivery of care and implementing changes to approve systems.
  • Participate in audits and implement change, based on audit outcomes
  • Act as preceptor and mentor to junior staff.
  • Lead the team in the absence of the Ward or Department Manager.
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection and appraisals of Junior staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential

  • 1 st Level Registered Nurse (relevant to area of work)
  • Relevant diploma / degree or due for completion within 12 months
  • Minimum of three years post-registration experience of which two years should be at Primary Nurse or equivalent


Desirable

  • Management qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Relevant Clinical knowledge/experience of the speciality


Desirable

  • Student nurse assessor
  • Evidence of ability to act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff
  • Evidence of involvement in producing teaching strategies/packages
