The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Children's Speech and Language Therapy Service is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and suitably experienced Band 6 Senior Speech and Language Therapist to be part of our innovative outpatient clinic service. They would consider the post as a Band 5 to Band 6 development opportunity for the right candidate.

This exciting role provides the successful candidate with an opportunity to develop their assessment and therapeutic skills, working with children aged 2 years and above, who have speech and/or language difficulties .

The successful candidate will deliver a speech and language therapy service for children and young people with speech and/or language difficulties within outpatient clinics in Doncaster . They will provide independent assessment and treatment of children as well as developing and implementing specialist programmes of care and treatment for individual patients with communication difficulties. They will be an integral part of the outpatients team, participating in the ongoing development of the current pathways and universal and targeted resources.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to:
  • Be a senior clinician within their speciality of children's outpatients
  • Provide clinical expertise in supporting the delivery of high standards of therapeutic care for patients within their care / speciality
  • Manage own caseload and to provide a high standard of assessment, management, treatment and advice to meet the needs of patients.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in health, social care, local authority and other agencies to meet the needs of patients.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources available within the team.
  • Work with other members of the team in the development of the service.
  • Ensure Clinical Governance is integral to service delivery within the specialty area.
  • Represent the Therapy Team and contribute to the development of the wider Therapy service within Clinical Therapies.

Qualifications/ Training

Essential

  • Professional specific degree i.e. BSC speech sciences or Masters in medical sciences.
  • Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Completion of the RCSLT Newly Qualified Practitioner Goals
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses in relevant specialism


Desirable

  • Membership of relevant clinical excellence network


Experience

Essential

  • Relevant undergraduate experience of working with a paediatric caseload
  • Relevant undergraduate experience of working with a range of assessment tools and appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • Relevant undergraduate experience of working with children with speech sound disorders
  • Experience of efficient and productive working within outpatients clinic setting


Desirable

  • Relevant undergraduate experience of using AAC e.g. symbols, communication boards
  • Relevant undergraduate experience of working with multidisciplinary teams
