The Neonatal Clinical Education team are looking for an experienced nurse to join their team to support the workforce on the neonatal unit.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for facilitating the learning and continuing development of all staff within the department, ensuring education is responsive to service developments. You will ensure education and clinical skills are delivered in line with key priorities and objectives within neonates for staff to deliver safe and excellent patient care. In collaboration with multidisciplinary team, you will be required to develop and maintain an evidence- based service for education and supporting technology-based education resources.

You will coordinate and provide induction training for all new staff working on the Neonatal unit and assist in supporting and evaluation of learning contracts and objectives for staff, working in conjunction with the Lead Neonatal Clinical Educator to support all staff within their role. You will lead by example, demonstrating effective role modelling to all members of the multidisciplinary team .

Job responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse the expectation is that, with adequate training, supervision and assessment, you will be able to

- Ensure clinical practice is evidence based or peer reviewed best practice

- Develop, maintain and teach CPD including clinical skills and knowledge necessary to deliver an evidence-based service.

- Assist the Lead Neonatal Clinical Educator and senior nursing team with the development of staff through assisting the on-going development, supervision and monitoring of nurses and nursery nurses ensuring their role provision meets service needs and local training needs analysis

-Adhere to the NMC code of practice at all times and operate within the NMC standards of proficiency for Registered Nurses

-Contribute to the development of policies, protocols, guidelines, and documentation in the Neonatal Service

-To act as a resource and support nursing teams in the care delivery of patients across neonates in the organisation.

- Able to work alongside nursing staff, role modelling high standards of practice whilst assessing, delivering and evaluating patient care. Highlighting any areas of development for team members as required.

- Devise individual training plans for staff that are either new in post or requiring specific support or training. Providing feedback to support their development

-To actively monitor and support the health and wellbeing of staff: advising on resources available and escalating for line manager assistance as required and agreed by the individual staff member

-Responsible for the administration of clinical procedures/treatments within the specialist area, acting as an expert resource for the nursing team

- Be actively involved in, arrange and deliver educational programmes and study day requirements.

- Mentor, support and educate registered staff in the clinical practice setting

- Support student nurses whilst on placement

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Active registration with the NMC as a Registered Nurse (Child or Adult)
  • Recognised Nursing Degree or equivalent
  • Neonatal qualification in speciality


Desirable

  • Post- registration teaching qualification
  • Post - registration Professional Advocate qualification
  • Post - registration qualification in research


Experience

Essential

  • Experienced Neonatal Nurse with acute clinical skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge and passion for Education
  • Evidence of continuous professional development including NLS
  • Knowledge of educational theory and an understanding of how learning takes place


Desirable

  • Research and audit experience


Knowledge

Essential

  • Personally resilient and able to manage complexity and work in an ambiguous or changing environment
  • Excellent presentational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Acts as a role model and are able to lead by example to ensure the Trust's values and behaviours are reinforced throughout their area of practice
  • Passion for teaching, education and practice development
  • Demonstrates awareness of neonatal guidelines
  • Work with enthusiasm and genuine interest within the multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of Safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Understand and be committed to good record keeping using the Trusts electronic and paper methods

  • Good computer skills and ability to use a variety of computer software packages
