An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fire Safety Advisor at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a highly motivated and resourceful individual, with excellent interpersonal and technical skills, to work within the Trust's Fire Safety Team.

As a Fire Safety Advisor, you will need to work flexibly, be proactive, be able to cope with different work environments and have the ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines, whilst delivering high quality work.

The post holder will work within the Fire Safety Team to support the effective delivery of the fire safety management across all of the premises that fall under the umbrella of the South Tees hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will need to have the relevant knowledge to provide specialist advice on matters of fire safety across the Trust in order to enable the organisation to meet its statutory obligations regarding building fire safety and staff training.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will act as the specialist in the field of fire safety and will require the knowledge and experience necessary to understand what measures must be in place to ensure the organisation's compliance with statutory fire safety regulations.

The post holder must apply this knowledge to the management of fire safety in a healthcare setting to plan and deliver fire safety activities that are appropriate, practicable and sufficient without unnecessarily impacting on the delivery of healthcare services.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Ability to analyse fire drawings, fire risks & fire safety deficiencies to define the best technical, practical, and physical solutions that protects the Trust and the people it serves.
  • Ability to research complex legislation and information,
  • Ability to produce clear and concise reports that are understood by all levels.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Computer literate.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.


Desirable

  • High level of presentation skills, both written and verbal.


QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential

  • Degree or Higher-level diploma in Fire Safety management or equivalent level of experience within a senior fire safety role.
  • Professional qualification in a fire related subject e.g. Confederation of Fire Protection Associations, Europe (CFPA) diploma or equivalent.
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Health and Safety.


Desirable

  • Attendance at the leadership and development and improvement programme (4.5 days)
  • Relevant professional membership e.g. Institute of Fire Prevention Officers or equivalent.
  • Adult teaching certificate e.g. City and Guilds 730 or equivalent.


EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Extensive experience working within a Fire Safety related position.
  • Extensive experience in building design & fire safety regulations/deficiencies.
  • Designing and delivering training interventions.
  • Detailed specialist knowledge of Fire Safety legislation and best practice within a healthcare environment particularly Fire Code, HTM's and RRO.
  • Knowledge of the Building Regulations appertaining to fire safety and Approved Document B


Desirable

  • Experience in an NHS acute environment.
  • Experience in PFI and other building premises projects.
  • Experience within a Healthcare environment.


PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Highly motivated, resourceful and uses skills and knowledge of fire legislation to protect the Trust.
  • Flexibility - able to cope with different work environments.
  • Ability to work under pressure/meet tight deadlines whilst delivering high quality work.
